how to make your own bonnet raisers

  1. #1
hey all i had a crack of making my own bonnet raisers today and tbh it wasent even hard, so i thought id take some pics and let you all no how i done it, people probs already no lol but ow well

    things you need :

    4x 1.5 inch bolts
length of piping (gaspipe works a treat)
    4x washers

first thing to do is decide how big you want the spacers, i only wanted a little gap so i only done mine half inch long, so when decided cut the pipe 4x into the decided length so they are like this :

after this is done its pritty stright forward just remove the current bolts 1 by one but while going along replace them with the new bolts and spacers, rember to put the spacer between the bonnet and the hinge, once done it should look like this:

    hope this helps

i just used washers....then you can adjust it easier...did you do all four the same length? i used 8 washers at the back (nearest window) and 4 at the front...puts less strain on the bonnet ive found....

I have just put some spacers on my bonnet on my mk2. I can't decide if I like them so a think I will leave them on see if they grow on me

its supposed to allow room for throttlebodies etc. and to aid with keeping the bay cool. People do it for looks as with everything these days though
