Smoothing door cards

  1. #1
Ok heres the crack, im smoothing my door cards at the moment ready to be sprayed gloss black with orange fabric inserts to go with my colour theme,
ive nearly finshed one and so far so good, ive used p40 fibreglass filler as an undercoat to give it strenth and then put p38 filler on top and spent ages and ages and ages sanding lol,
I was wondering could I just use fibreglass resin on its own to de texture the other doorcard and still get a smooth surface for painting? as doing this is eating up all my free time at the mo, still got the other doorcard and dash to do yet!!
not to mention its costing me a fortune for filler from halfrauds!
    cheers for any help.

mate am doing my gearstick surround right now and i tried filler but its crap for the job, your either better just sanding away at it without fiberglassing it or theres some kind of paste stuff my uncle told me about that would make it smooth and you wouldnt need to even sand it, i could find out the name of it tomorrow for you if you want

yea i did try sanding it away but that seemed to not really do much, the texture was still there, filler is ok if you use p40 underneath but like I said it take so long, just wondering if fibreglass resin would do the trick,
but yeah if you can find out the name of that stuff it would be wikked cheers mate

Personally I wouldn`t use fibreglass or filler i`d start off with 600 grade wet/dry & work through the grades finishing with 1200 grit. Then use filler primer spray(plastic) sand between coats with 1200 grit & spray Black finishing with lacquer.

get hold of an elec.. DA and use 400 grit what you use to smooth primer befour painting and hit it youll finish in side an hour on the outher door card then just plastic primer it and paint
