i have been told that buying a pipercross induction kit could slow my car down because of the hot air being taken from the engines heat is hot and not cold. is this true?
Problems with induction kits vtr
-
#1
-
#2its the same with any open air kit. the best choice would be to get a force feed induction kit like the pipercross viper kit.
-
#3yeah enclosed induction kits are the best for performance increase. green cotton do a good one.
-
#4An open filter could end up losing you power as it has nothing to protect it from the heat of the engine. An enclosed on is the one to get for performance as an open one is meerly for sound
-
#5it seems that open ones giv gret sound but enclosed dont give any atll? is this true?
-
#6enclosed give a little bit of sound but not much but are alot better for prformance
-
#7yeh i was going to get a bmc but now thinking i want an open one since ive fitted backbox! it needs evening out at the front(sound i mean) when im driving fast you can hear the backbox at the rear but then standard engine noise at the front

buy a 'green cotton' heat shield!! i bought one for a tenner, seems to keep alot of heat off. -
#9which side of the filter do you fit this heat shield?
-
#10Towards the side which the hot air will be entering the induction kit. Engine SideQuote:Originally Posted by baz_saxowhich side of the filter do you fit this heat shield?

#11so...facing towards the front end then
-
#12There will be a new air filter avalible soon from pipercross called the Vforce. It should give you extra performance aswell as a good sound. I dont think it look great tho.
-
#13To be honest, from a little 1600 8valve - your not gonna be that affected by heatsoak from the engine
Any filters, open or enclosed are barely going to increase performance as it is, especially on such a small engine.
But if it came down to it, I'd recommend a BMC enclosed -
#14i fitted a bmc after i had a open induction kit, they are much better as i think it makes the engine have more tourque.
-
#15The only thing you would notice was the throttle response.
Not a chance you'd notice increased torque I'm afraid -
#16same thing

#17i have a bmc on my vts and a magnex backbox and i can hear mine sounds nice when you put your foot down. i had a somota induction kit like the green induction kit. they are very loud when you put your foot down. prefer the sound of the bmc over the somota.
