engine paining

    Im putting my saxo back together after 18months or more stood still... she has a little rusty dusty on her and now i want to know information about painting the block and rust proffing her...

    the engine blocks look nice painted, is it just a case of wire brush it down with WD40 let it dry ad slap it on....? also how can you rust proof a 4 branch fanimold...? underseal is this also simple to apply....

    so many questions to preserve the sax of love LMBO help us out gals and guys

    i want to do iy myself, not send it away to be taken apart and bodged back together again. powder coating would be the top shelf option though

    I think some of the rallye guys/gals have painted there iirc

    spose it just a matter off gettin the right materials ( correct paint etc) and perfect preparation work, rubbing down with sandpaper n shit, and to remember to do it wen the engines cold lol.

    when its cold LOL... dam right!

    is there specal paints that are better than others or something?

    Seems to be an iffy subject this one. Most people seem to just go with hammerite metal paint, (including me) And should last a few years. However many paints claim good heat resistant qualities but its not all about maximum heat risistance its also heat cycling. However with proper prep work hammerite should be good for a bottom end. If you decide to go mad and start painting the alloy bits too remember youll need a good prep surface, acid etch primer then VHT paint. Sure someone on here will know/elaborate more than me! Try searching the int for other forums/advice!

    I'll be giving vht enamal a try on mine I think. Halfords sell it, and it says its suitable for engine blocks. Few people on here have tried it and its come out well

    yeah ive been to good old halfords! lol i have wire brushes, under sealant, there was a few choices of paint ( i dont just mean colour ) but wanted advise or just ideas from all on here.... i will be paintinf bottom end and head and anything i can sand down and get rid of the rust...

    maybe i shoudl just ask the man in halfords... lol

    done mine recently just used hammerite, spent a good amount of timed cleaning the block down tho, high quality brake cleaner and a wire brush, and a tin of brush on gunk, then just a case of painting the hammerite on.
    also sprayed the head with the very high heat paint,(silver) and am very pleased with the results
