homosexual unknown problem!!

   Hi
   
   My car has a homosexual problem which is hard to explain but i will try....when i am driving along, all of the needles on the dashboard drop to the bottom, then go back to normal. There is a very very slight change in the feel of the engine as you drive along, and then it happens. Also the battery light comes on. But sometimes, you can't feel its going to happen and you wouldnt even know it was happening unless you looked at the dashboard. Any ideas on this one? Driving me crazy

   check that the aulternator aint over chargeing iv had that before

   sounds like a charging prob, check the wires on your altenator havent corroded, the instruments normally do that when your batt is going flat

   I had this same problem until one day the needles dropped and didn’t go back up again and the car stalled. Tried starting it and it wasn’t for happening.
   Lifted the bonnet and had a look and it turned out to be the earth from the battery had been loose and then came of. I just reattached it to the chassis and that was that..never happened again.

   same thing happend to my old 306......check your grounds

    id describe it as slightly eggy lol had similar prob on a 205 turned out to be the alternator over chargin was cheap to fix 2

    This is in the FAQ's
    
    "Connect a voltmeter across the terminals of your battery and start the engine. Have someone rev the engine to 2500rpm and hold the engine at this speed. The voltage shown should be between 12v and 13.8v. If the voltage is below 12v the battery is not being charged sufficently by the alternator, likewise if the reading is above 13.8v then the alternator is overcharging the battery and this could be potentially dangerous"

    ok thanks i'l get on that right away. I took a few of the earths off, gave them a clean and put them back on. Will take it for a drive after that. Thanks for your advice guys, will let you know

    Sounds to me like your alternator or battery is about to give up the go! when my alternator stopped charging my battery properly my dials and wipers stopped working along with the lights. I would get it fixed asap you dont want to breakdown in the middle of no where.

    its been going on for about 9 months now! why would it only happen after i drive a little while? usually when the temp is up to normal?
