The engine management light was on so iv just had a diagnostic done and it came up with knock sensor. What are they and what do they do? Also how much would a new one cost?

senses knocking and adjusts fueling accordingly i believe. i would like some confirmation where this is on a vts, is it at the back on a mk1 and in the combined plug at the front on a mk2?

mk 1 vts i believe is at the back of the block half way up as said above for its purpose

Knock sensor is a sensor in the engine that listens for un-recognised knocking noises and turns your engine managment light on.
Usually incase theres some of your piston rings/valves have came off and knocking in side your cylinder :]]

listens for det and knock yeah an adjusts timing & fueling to suit
