x drilled discs

Are crossed drilled discs worth the extra dollar compared to plain discs. Only reservation is ive heard drilled discs can crack. Yeah they look good and dispense the heat but is it worth it if they are more prone to cracking? Or are cases of cracking only really known after really hard use?
Will be getting them with the midilight calpier from rally design. Just wondered if its better to run the drilled discs or plain ones.

    Regards

ive had them and within 1000 miles they wer warped BADLEY

Also had to get a second set as 1 crack, and that was under road use

Have just got some 266's and im using standard discs and pads (flat faced but vented) from Andrew Page and i done approx 80 miles on them before doing a track day and tey are still perfect.

I would say go for normal flat faced, vented discs and upgrade the pads, maybe get the maxtorq discs off Kam.

I wont be getting drilled again, thats for sure

bet yours were not over £100 for 2 discs?
Cant see how on a road you would get near enough heat with a decent set to crack them.
which brand did you use, the x drilled in the 4pot kit are maxtorq

I know a few people who have the x drilled and grooved discs with the wilwoods and have had no problems.
I used the plain ones (as they were alot cheaper) and have never had any problems with them tbh, fade that i have seems to come down to pad choice.

I would advise if buying that kit new to get some decent pads if your tracking it, i fried the bp-10s that come with the kit, once they are too hot the pad just disappears.
Just had a set of m1144 pads in mine, feel a lot sharper, but again fried them and they have lasted around 2k miles and 3x20minute sessions round croft.

Just ordered some polymatrix E's for track and getting bp-10s purely for the road.

the discs that come in the rally design kit are made by maxtorq, including the x drilled and grooved. (going off the listings on the site)

Thanks for the help. yeah im sure they'll be fine for road use and the occasional trackday. Was thinking m1144 pads but do they really wear that quickly??

if abused, on the road they will be fine, had more of a sharper feel than the standard pads that come in the kit.

Thank me for them being listed on the site

m1144 do tend to wear fast, but if not hardcore abused would last a good 8k mile i would say.

Standards lasted me about 6k had barely went down at all.
12laps of the ring and they were down to the metal

Depends on how you drive tbh....

Pred i think is still on the bp-10 pads and x drilled discs from over 2 years ago

oh and the m1144 squeal but i like it (squeal even in standard calipers)... well untill after croft and its un bareable tbh....

Now and then you may get a slight squeal with the standards but it isnt annoying.

when a hot discs goes cool quickly, the cracks begin..
we sell no end at work but people don't listen, more just for looks really.
Even genuine Porsche and BMW M3 discs are drilled as standard and still crack.

Cool ill see how prob get the m1144's as i was swaying towards them and use the standards as a back up as it were, just incase they wear super fast. but saying that the standards should be ok for some fast road use.

standards are spot on for road use.
