alrite guys, im going to the Nuremberg ring in 8 days, and i need to get a new gearbox before then as mine seems pretty weak and is crunching 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd as the sincro is very worn. just wondering gearbox specs as in what speeds you reach in each gear and top end speeds. just need some information on the 1.1, 1.4 box's etc. any help would be great, thanks

    1. Don't put Nuremburg ring into your sat nav, it'll get you onto the Nuremburg ring road, which is 200miles away from Nurburg

    2. VTS box is well short enough, unless your a complete pussy you'll be maxing out anything shorter

ok then ill do some research before i go, my friends have been there a few times before so hopefuly they should know.

ill see how one goes, at the end of the day if i dont like it ill just drop a vts one back in, but to be honest that track i go round you dont realy get to those sort of speeds

cheers bud, that has hepled me narrow it down, iv done some research, basicaly the s2 rallye gearbox will be too short unless i change the final drive, so im going to go for a 1.4 xsi box out of a 106 as they are still short but the car wont be screaming when im sitting at 70 on a motorway

Well you havnt done your research very well. Youll be screaming more in an XSI box than what you will with an S2 Rallye box.

They share the same ratios but the final drives are different, meaning the XSI is shorter geared than the S2 which means the XSI is a 'screamer' in your case.

yea hes right. if you want a good all round box go for a S box they are short boxes with large final drives.

ahh right, must of got it the wrong way round opps. cheers for the help bud, could of been an annoying mistake, unless i cant source an s2 box, then i will get the xsi box and change the final drive out of the vts box i have?

If you did that then youll pratically have two VTS boxes. 1st and 3rd would be very very very tiny difference. Probs to a 0.1 mph difference between the 2 boxes if they both had a VTS final drive.

Just put a VTS box in lol

To make it a bit simpler, both boxes have the same gear ratios (1st and 3rd are 0.01 different ratio, but irrelevant really). Only difference is the final drive, if you put the final drive into a 1.4 XSI box then it would just be another VTS box.

Why are you pissing about wanting to change final drives between an xsi box and vts box?

They use the same gear cluster, so you will just be putting a vts final drive into an xsi box (with the same cluster making it a very expensive 's' box).

Whoevers been telling you about gearboxes needs their head seeing to.

Changing the final drive is an entire box appart job btw.

Theres not a huge difference with that and the vts.
