Important! : saxo radiator fan problem!

bought a week ago just notcied the fan wasnt plugged in, after plugging the fan in ive had this problem:

my radiator fan is staying on when i switch the ignition off and its going full spin.

when i start the engine it goes off.

not been out since a fill of the coolant fluid just now but recon this is a fan fault/thermostat fault?

and to make sure i did it correct what was the recommended ratio for water and coolant?

an update on the situation.

fans stopped after a good 15 minutes,

recon this could be because the radiator was being run on a below minimum water level before hand? and not had the correct cooling while being driven?

Does your car have a sensor pluuged into the radiator? It will be in the top right of the radiator as you look into the engine bay. If so, does disconnecting the wiring stop your fan?

IF not, do you have a blue sensor plugged into the top of the thermostat housing - follow the top hose back from the radiator to find it?

Does the engine temp gauge read high and/or is the temp warning light on?

50% anti-freeze to 50% water is usually fine, depending on the anti-freeze you have chosen. Read what the anti-freeze bottle recommends.

Hi,

i think its the sensor, due to the fan comes on full speed almost instantly from start up on a cold engine.

ill buy a new thermostat tomorrow and see how that goes. ill post after buying.

its the engine temp sensor mate, ive had it go 4 times now!
just had it hooked up to a diagnostic machine and have it turnt off . . . it still works as normal, and kicks in when needs to!

thats all ive done, and at some point, replace the unit, about 4-6 quid i think.

Nice one for the help,

where can i grab a fan switch for an X reg 2000 MK2 Saxo for? is it the MK1 switch or is there another as i went to order a new radiator cap and sump gasket, but they said they can only find the mk1 version of the switch.

are they the same?

if anyone else looks at this post, just a head up i found the problem !

The fan had a shortage in the wireing. causing the fan to trip and stay on becaase the sensors hadnt been able to communicate so the safety feature was full speed for any drive to ensure a cool engine.

if you have this problem i reccomend spending around £3-12 on Thermostat/fanswitch then take it to a garage and say look i think its got a shortage.

problem sorted.

Is the mk2 saxo fan and radiator the same as a mk1 also is the wiring harness the same thanks.
