#2depends how much you have in your budget
if you get a mild cam you wont need a remap and will probs spend around 400-500
200 of that on the cam, and newmans ph1 is probs the best mild cam, or kent cams pt40 i think it is. and the rest of service bits headgasket and skim etc
if you want a wilder cam like the newmans ph3 cam that needs a remap expect to pay an extra 400 ontop of the above for the remap
plus if you get some one else to fit it will cost extra 300quid maybe? im not sure on costs of camming a vtr these days
so its not cheap mate but well worth it -
#3ph3 newman cam, from kam-racing

#4thanks, so if i get a newmansph3 cam , i will need a map which i want any way, but wat sort of gasket will i need, i have read some were that if i put 2x 0.4 it lowers compression is this correct, thanks again guys
-
#5dont double up gaskets, you dont want to lose compression. just replace it for the correct gasket, same thickness as the one you removed
-
#6yes as sparco tom says just use a normal replacment gasket but try to get a mls gasket though as they will last longer
to up the compression you would need to get a thinner gasket but doing this you run the risk of the valves hitting the pistons due to the cam having alot of lift
so just stick with a mls replacment gasket, i can get the part number if you want for one? when you need to get one as i work for a motorfactor and got a mls replacement gakset for mine from work alot cheaper that from places like gmc etc lol -
#7hi has anyone ever fitted a piper 300 cam to a vtr and if so wot sort or a difference did it make to performance
-
#8as far as im aware there is no piper 300, only for vts
the highest piper stated is a 285 and for the roller rocker which you have, is actually only a 264deg cam so you would gain less than having a newmans ph3 cam cause that is a 270deg cam, so you may aswell pay less and gain more by geting ph3 mate -
#9well iv got the cam bought it second hand its a rally cam for my rally vtr problem is i was told the lift would be to much for standard internals i dont know if this is true tho can any one help..
-
#10Yeah, most probably as rally engines usually have forged internals. Basically, the cam has a profile which raises the lift by a fair whack, so by using standard internals the valves would hit the pistons, and your engine would become an ornament.
Also for such a wild cam you have probably bought, you would also need some form of iTB's or perhaps a rallye inlet. This goes into quite a lot of £££'s though, well worth it but expensive. You might be best selling the cam on mate and buying a PH3. -
#11ive got a rallye inlet, cam and adjustable pully for sale mate for a good price pm me if your interested
-
#12well it wont be piper its more than likely the kent rally cam thats about 300degQuote:well iv got the cam bought it second hand its a rally cam for my rally vtr problem is i was told the lift would be to much for standard internals i dont know if this is true tho can any one help..
but tbh thats quite a high duration unless your running a hugeee spec
to gain the most i would say get rid of that get a rallye or xsi head so you can run a ph4 cam and run a decent itb set up you will need forged internals with the ph4 cam as it has very high lift
if you do not want to use forged internals the next best cam would be a catcam 4900645, which again wis for the rallye orf xsi head, alot of people have had very good gains with this cam and decent itb set up, a guy on there has his 8v for sale at the min
hes made 155bhp from 8v running the catcam 4900645, and gsxr bikebodies with a sandy brown inlet mani set up, also with a 16v bottom end, cause they use slightly pocketed pistons standard which means higher compression
what spec do you currently run on your 'rally' vtr?
