saxo 1.4 with 1.6 head

  1. #1
right so my mate has a 1.4i saxo with a 1.6i 8v head on it, he insists that makes it faster however i've been told it lowers the compression ratio as its made for a bigger engine, and if he put a 1.1 head on it it would increase the compression ratio and make it faster.

    is this correct? thanks

Erm, im not an expert on this but i though a 1.6 head would be alot better than a 1.1 head.
My mate has put my old vtr head on his quicksilver (1.4) and it seems faster and alot more responsive.

I dont have a massive knoweldge of engines but i would have thought the 1.1 head would have smaller valves???

never new you could mix top and bottom ends... besides.... changing the head wont change the bore size will it?

pointless tbh, there also the fuelin the think about etc as the ecu will be set up for a std engine..
  6. #6
so how about a vtr head and ecu on a 1.4 block? will it work???
  7. #7
yea i thought that if you had a vtr head, that it would increase the compression rates, hence more air being forced, so more power, but thats what i think

But the displacement is in the bottom end which would still be 1.4

Would be better putting XSI or s1 rallye head on.

the block of the 1.6 goes perfeclty with the 1.4 head , a mate have his 106 like that and is very very fast.

putting a vtr head onto a 1.4 bottom will hardly make much difference for the hassle of the change, you more than likely wont gain anything tbh they are pretty much the same head as far as im aware if your on about furio and vtr, there maybe a tiny bit more duration, but its not worth it mate

if you are going to change the head then id highly recomend using either xsi or rallye head like db_sax said

because these heads have mild cam standard and the cam in them are actually higher duration and lift than most mild cams you can buy
also the head has stiffer springs plus non roller rockers, so are alot more capable of higher revs if you decide to get remap and raise the limiter, plus will be alot more responsive and well worth changing

you can pick up one of these heads for about 70 or 80 quid

alexb as one for sale atm its in great condition had a rebuild not too long ago all you need is a rocker cover, he wants about 70quid for it

So... i could get this + a new rocker cover... then get it fitted to my furio?

What sort of gains you reckon you would see?
