Spraying wheels matt black.

  1. #1
Well search found nothing so I guess I'll have to post it.

Got some VTR wheels I want to spray matt black. Is there anything different I need to do? i.e. different primer? More sanding? etc.

Also, what kind of lacquer would I need to use?

Lastly, if I wanted to add a white rim to the wheels would rim tape be the easiest option?

    Cheers.

I did mine with normal primer - depends on the paint on yours befor you start might be worth using a plastic primer

plastic primer will flake off!! plastic primer is for plastics not steel or alloy..........

    Ok, and no lacquer then?

Also, will the paint be likely to flake off and chip?

lacquer is better than no lacquer you could also look at having them shot blasted and powdercoated

The whole point of matt is to have a dull un-shiny finish so why do you want to use lacquer?

I didn't mean lacquer as such but I wasn't sure if there was something I needed to use to protect the paint and didn't know what else to call it lol.

Btw you have no idea how hard it is to keep gloss black wheels clean from brake dust lol.
  36. #36
I am one of the only people to do gloss black by me alot of people do matt black around cannock for some reason and you would be amazed at how many people think my wheels are poweder coated.

Tip: If you want to be diffrent use rim tape after you spray them!
