1.1i Performance

I am saving up for a VTR or VTS but am going to stick with my 1.1 for about a year longer. I was wondering what type of modifications can i do or simple cleaning or part changes to help increase my engines speed and stuff..... you no bhp

Im talking about stuff like pigback ecu chips?
    Chaning spark plugs?

Stuff which isnt like hundreds as i need the money for my other car when i get it

do nothing and save save save for your next car.

    learnt that from exerience.

Ummm, im fed up of old people other taking me joking

Well is there any think i can do which is cheap such as take someone appart and clean it and stuff to help my engine performance? I was also looking at my engine, the like silver alaminium pipe which i think is somthing to do with the air to the engine has like loads of cracks in it, if i replaced this will it help?

best way to make your 1.1 go better is too shave as much weight as you can!! things like spare wheel and rear seats things you don't really need! the more you can shave the better the improvements!! your looking at about 1 bhp extra per 10 kg you lose!! and the spare wheel cage and tools come up to about 20 kgs so you get an extra 2 bhp doesn't sound like much but when u consider its free and your standard bhp is only around the 60bhp mark its a considerable difference

Umm and if i need to like change my tire haha lol
  6. #6
then you can get home quicker to got it!!
  7. #7
buy a tin of the tyre sealant stuff, so that will get you home lol

Well on mine I've only got a k&n induction kit and a supersprint race center pipe but I have stripped out the back so no back seats no plastics no spare wheel goes faster than a westcoast

if you are going to do some mods forget the engine. Fit bit that you can swap over to the better car in a years time. That way you can start collecting mods gradually straight away

ive got a 1.1 and the best things to do are what the others said strip it of and excess weight, ive got a straight through exhaust from manifold and cituning induction kit, beat most westcoasts and some 1.4's :-)

As other people have said; save weight. It's free and improves the cars performance in every way; acceleration, braking and handling.

As Eldridge said, each 10Kg you lose is the equivelent of adding 1Bhp to the car, so with some sensible stripping you could drop about 40-60Kg of crap you don't need/want and gain the equivilent of 4-6Bhp.

Also give the car a good service, use decent spark plugs and oil, fit a K&N panel filter to the standard airbox and fit a de-cat if you have a cat under the car (keep your cat for MoT time). Could also clean out your throttle body and replace all the 'intestine/restrictive' airbox piping with a simple piece of pipe.

Doing all that will cost you a about £100 and you can do it all yourself with a basic toolkit. Should see a small increase in power from the de-cat and panel filter and noticeable performance from the reduced weight.

Then save your little heart out dude lol. Have fun!

dont do anything, your wasting your money unless you do as kam said, buy bits that can be used on an R or S

    a westcoast is a 1.4

best bet: get an induction kit, nice backbox and then just do subtle mods to it. chances are i'm gonna try and get a mango car when i upgrade so that i can just use mine for spares!

stripping it out usually helps too. but you cant do anything to make it massively quick. and that silver pipe is just to help with cold idling, doesn't mean squat (i've taken mine off!)

do you mean the one going from the cold air feed to the exhaust manifold?

dose it make a difference performance wise without it?

when my car idles when cold it stalls u think it could be something 2 do with this pipe?
  20. #20
Mine used to do that, i took it to the garage and it turned out the cable going from the acceleration pedal to the bit in the engine bay was to tight or lose or somthing, so the computer was getting confused apparently? I just got up i cant remembre the names of the different parts haha

that could be it actually because you have to rev it slightly to get it too start! dosent explain why its fine when the cars warm though
