Tapping noise from the throttle body??

  1. #1
As above and its really loud what does this mean and how do i fix it?

i had this problem, asked around on here and was told to get the tappets adjusted (tappet valve clearances), £28 at my local garage, although if you buy or have got the right tool then you can do it yourself with the haynes manual. Got the car back and job done... no more tapping.

If its a vts you own then your using hydraulic lifters which are self adjusting, so you dont adjust them you can only replace them.
I would put it down to noisy injectors. That is unless its loud tapping/knocking which could indicate a number of things. i.e bottom end

The tapping noise is coming right from the throttle body so guessing tappets meself, thanks guys will get them replaced.

Probably just the noise from the injectors clicking working it's way out through the throttle body.

You could take the throttle body off and give it a good clean. Remove the ICV, clean that and the bit it sits in, rebuild and refit. You'll be suprised how gunked up it is.

adjust yourself on a cold engine.
    0.2 inlet
    0.4 exhaust
  8. #8
    huh?? what do you mean?
  9. #9
they are the clearances of the tapets
  10. #10
how do i measure that and is it easy to adjust?
  11. #11
make sure the valve is fully closed, stick a feeler guage in the gap of the tappet and adjust till its a snug fit. they have a 10mm securing nut on top iirc. get the hayes manual out for a clear guide to doing it

Dont listen to tom . Assuming your car is the one put in your profile, IE a VTS. Theyre self adjusting as said above and you cant do what toms saying, that works on a VTR.
