Help - weird engine cut out

  1. #1
    Hi all

I've been sprinting a Saxo VTS this year, but have been having some problems - specifically when moving into 3rd and putting the hammer back down the engine just stops. It doesn't stall, but you get the engine breaking effect.

We looked at the coilo pack and sparks - all good. Fuel surge was suggested, so we topped up with afiver and it helped - but didn't clear it up.

This last Saturday it happened quite baddly on track, really losing power for some time in third. Then, on the roads coming home coming up to a roundabout I felt it again (first time on the road), and it properly cut out on the roundabout, and refused to restart.

RAC man was at a loss. Eventually tried an extra tenners worth of fuel as it seemed fuel wasn't pumping through (I had 1/4 of a tank in). It did get it going eventually, but on the M1 the engine started losing power again. It would run at low revs, but trying to go above 3/4000 revs just made it give up. Only way I got home was by going veeeerrrrry slow!

Two more mechanics can't think what it is - no fault codes. Our best guess is something along the fuel system, but the garage seem to think it unlikley.

    Anyone have anything to offer?!

Should have said they changed the flywheel sensor - without me authorising the work. They get a shock when I only pay for the diagnostic tomorrow!

Does this sound like something that could help?

yer crank sensor change sounds like the best plan to solve the issue

Cheers Tom - I'll have a word with the garage and see what they think. Anyone else have any suggestions too?!

no worries, could be as simple as a lambda problem aswell

Many miles on it? sounds like the pumps possibly giving out?
