Cost to have alloys sprayed

   I was going to get my VTR alloys powder coated but I'm now having second thoughts as it was going to cost me £40 a wheel.
   
   I dont want to do them myself as it will take ages and I'd rather pay more to get them done properly.
   
   For those of you that have had your alloys sprayed professionally what did you pay and did they do the prepping themselves ie sanding down and removing curbing dents etc?
   
   If I could get it down to about £100 instead of £160 I'd be happy.

   i payed £45 a wheel....but my wheels are awkward to paint (multispokes)

   normally around £200 ive found for a good job is about the right price, give or take a tenner

   fuck that do it yourself, if you take your time you can do a better job than you would probably get anyway !

   £45 per wheel is expensive for coating although I guess it depends what colour you go for and what prep they need.
   If they've covered in shite and paint is flaking then they'll need blasting before hand which is probs why the price is so high.
   
   I order powders in from America all the time, it was gonna cost me £80 in materials alone to do my rims because I wanted them a lil fancy.
   
   If you only want them a standard colour which they'll be running daily (Black, White etc) and you do the prep work yourself I'd try get the price down to £25 a wheel or just offer him £100 cash in hand there & then for all 5x... just make sure the gaffa isn't around.
   
   Would offer to coat them myself if you were more local.

   there was a thread on here a few weeks back with a lad who had a cheap powder coat job done on his wheels lol you get what you pay for.

   Powdercoating for 40 a wheel sounds very expensive. Can get them sprayed professionally for 45 a wheel or my mate will do them for 35!

    Thanks for the info marcus. Yes the price includes preparation as well but that's the part i didnt want to do as it's so time consuming and I have no steels to replace the alloys for the time being.
    
    I think I'm just gonna contact the finishers again and ask them if they can offer me a lower price for a wet spray instead of powedercoating and see what they say.

    it took me 2 days to prep bodyfill smooth down and paint my vtr alloys dont take long at all just get 2 mates to help you along the way (Y) much cheaper too

    i did mine and got a lovely finsish they might look excellent but they chip like hell i did it all properly but somehow they still manage to chip its a pain in the ass every week theres at least 1 new chip on them.

    £40 a wheel is a good price. Trade only get them for £35. powercoating > normal spraying.

    It's a bit of an open statement to say people in the trade get them for £35, prices vary massivley between coaters.
    
    A good friend of mine had 5x big 4x4 rims & bead locks all shot blasted AND coated in glossy black by a company I deal with (I was too busy to do them myself) for £120 cash in hand and the finish was unbeleivable.
    
    As I said before, your best bet is to do as much as the prep work yourself & re-negotiate or leave the prep. to them and take the hit in the wallet.
