#2Newman's PH3 give you a rough idle, but don't need mapping.
However for the £300 you don't get their full potential without the map ontop.
EDIT: Why do i always assume everyone has valvers...... -
#3Is it true that cams increase emissions?
Sorry for hijack... -
#4if its VTR or westie then looking at a kent pt40 or a piper 270 or newman ph1 for no remap at all to run fine. Obviously more gains with remap / standalone
-
#5To help you understand ill explain.
The cams have little notches on them, called lobes. The lobes are of a larger size in lift (length from the centre of the cam to the tip of the lobe) and duration (total width of the lobe) than the standard cams. Which means they open your valves higher and for longer. This lets in more air/fuel which gives you the power increase.
So yes the emissions will go up as your burning more air and fuel. However im sure there are a few cars out there with cams that pass emissions tests. -
#7ive got a pretty wild cam for sale with pully for sale in the fs section and that was fine without a remap, but needed larger inlet

#8well the best cam you can use that wouldnt need a remap is the cam used in the rallye and xsi heads, but you will need a rallye or xsi head to run them
these cams are 270deg and 10.3/10.6mm of lift depending on which one you use, it is a mild cam and will run without a remap, as it uses standard timings etc
it has more lift than all the other aftermarket cams, and more duration than some after market cams
and its alot cheaper doing this aswell than buying an aftermarket cam
it would cost you 70quid for the head then 30 to 40quid for skim, clean and new stem seals to be fitted, then you just need service bits so your looking at about 300 really doing it this way, add another 100 to that if you buy an aftermarket cam
i was going to do this to my car, but i managed to get into a group buy on newmans cams, so decided to get a bigger cam needing a remap -
#9hi, im getting my vtr cammed, will it run fine with out a re map, or will i need a re map aswell
