can a 206 gti axle fit my saxo vts?

im thinking about 16s for track use so i can run bigger brakes that i had on my 206 gti track toy a while back and i fell inlove with em!
if i did get the 16s instead of keeping my 15s is it just the weight id be gaining or do they make a noticeable difference on cornering etc
