i believe peak torque on a saxo vtr mk1 is 3000rpm. So would the car be quicker if i was changing gears at 3000rpm or going right up the red line and then changing gear. Just a bit confused
changing gear at 3000 revs?

#2Lol.
You want to be using all of the cars power band. The optimum time to change will be somewhere between peak torque and peak bhp. Most likely a few hundred rpms after peak bhp so you fall right back into the power band.1 user thanked this post: -
#3Peak torque is made before peak power. You'll want to keep the revs above 3000 otherwise you'll be 'dropping out the power' so to speak.

#4is this not just common sense? you can feel the car is alot quicker above 3k unless your driving a densil.

#5yeah i hear you. Thanks for the info

#10so far i've had some nobs saying fail... yet not really any proper info. What is the optimum gear change? So far i understand that most of the power is above 3000rpm that is blatantly obvious. But somebody told me that the optimum gear change is at the peak torque 3000rpm. So you guys are saying if i find out where my peak bhp is at and change gear just above it the engine will be at its optimum

#11I believe peak torque is as you said at 3000RPM, and peak power is around 5600RPM.1 user thanked this post:

#13tbh, i think its a stupid question that gets asked every 2 days. drive your car and see what feels quicker instead of asking all us E-racersQuote:so far i've had some nobs saying fail... yet not really any proper info. #14i'm on the forums often and have never seen anyone ask about the optimum time to change gear. However if you do then fair enough sorry to have bothered you mate.

#15Optimum time to change gear:
1) For fuel efficiency - as early in the rev range as possible (realistically probs 2.5 to 3k)
2) For speed - Peak torque at 3,500rpm, Peak power at 5,500 (IIRC) thus as above change at 5,700rpm ish1 user thanked this post: -
#16in my 1.1 i change at 4k will that thrash the engine lol
