was driving yesterday and clutch slipped twice and has never done before. pulled up had a look around and when got back in could select gears and use clutch but had no drive at all so tried slackening the cable a bit and still no drive. towed home and had closer look, the gearbox selects fine in all gears and linkages look fine. there is still feeling in the clutch but when in gear can still push the car forward or backwards.
has anybody else experienced this problem on a vts?
sorry about the long writing but not sure wether could be clutch gearbox or something like pressure plate worn.
    thanks dan

    Hi,

Sounds like the clutch friction plate. Its either worn or contaminated with oil and hence the slipping / no drive when in gear and you let the clutch go.

You'll need to check for friction plate wear or oil contamination = gearbox needs to come off.

If oil, it will be one of the seals; either crankshaft seal (£not sure) or transmission input shaft seal which is about £12.99

Can you see any oil leaking from the bottom of the bell housing? If so, can you tell if it is engine or tranmission oil? This will be a clue to the seal you need.

Ok, it's still the same diagnosis. Its like you have no clutch friction plate at all.

had a clutch kit picked up today from local autofactors and they said was the only 1 they do for a vts. dropped gearbox and everything out tonight and the clutch is the same size but the holes are alot wider and dont match up could there be a different flywheel or a fuck up at the autofactors. the clutch i bought was a heavy duty standard 1 and the 1 taken out was a c g motorsport 1 should there be a difference?
    thanks for help. dan

looked into the part number for the clutch have been given and is a LUK repset 1. on the list of cars to fit on 1 from ebay only lists the mk2 vts does anybody no if the hole spacing or actual clutch is different to the mk1 and mk2. the thrust bearing also looks slightly differen.

    Hi Dan,

From what you have described they do sound different. Best to take it back because if you try to fit it then the factors may not accept it back.

Try euro car parts, GSF or another factor.

fitted new clutch today and everything went back together properly and torqued up right. rolled in gear and there is only slight compression but can be rolled. all gears can be selected and clutch feels normal. when started goes into gear but tries to drive and doesn't. there is a slight noise in engine bay like something slipping. clutch doesnt smell even after about 10 mins trying. a peugot mechanic my dad knows said vts' are known for the diff going. could this be the problem and has anybody experienced this.
    thanks dan
