Another coilover thread....100mm wanted

  1. #1
Ive been looking into coilovers for a while now, im not wanting cheap made ones so the racelan/jamex etc are out of the picture, ive been looking into AST or Gaz as my budget is around the £600 mark but they dont seem to offer the drop im wanting.so basically i want a 100mm drop on a decent set of coilovers for £600..... possible or not?

    (Off-Topic) loving this

Yes its possible. GAZ coilovers will be well to hard anyway come with a 325lb spring.
Will have to be a custom set up mate, should have brought the coilovers I were selling lowered 100mm aswell..

    Yea custom is the way
threads and pans can be got off rallydesign.com and springs from Faulkner
if you wanna run a 2.25" springs I can get top pans made to run standard topmounts

the problem is i dont really understand any of that. im not very clue'd up on the build up and different ratings of coilovers/springs etc. is there not a product on the market that i can just buy with everything i need all in one package?

100mm? you will need a new manifold every week you leave it that low!!

You ll also need to go on a diet - even if your 7 stone wet through!!

How low can you go? To low!!!!!

The lower the car is the harder you have to make the suspension or it will just bottom out. Once the suspension has bottoms out its rock solid and the car will just be uncontrollably thrown about over every bump. For 100mm at all well (I use this work very loosely) you will be looking to get it very hard with 300lb springs on the front, 23mm T-bras on the back and tarmac spec dampers being about right. Even then it will still be a very nasty car to drive at speed on the road.

It says on KAM Racing the AST coilovers have a 100mm height adjustment, give them a pm/email for more info.

I'm on Gaz's at 55-60 mm runs nice but I don't think they'll give you out near a 100mm drop, only a few threads left to wind down on mine, if that.

you need the run a 3' dia spring 5' long with a 40lb x4' helper spring. ive used 2.5 springs in the past and they go coilbound before full suspension travel is achieved, 2.25 will be worse.

its not a cheap kit but the pug sport stuff seems the best to me.

the diameter of the spring makes no difference its how thick and how many coils they are will determine how long the spring will be when coilbound and as long as you can keep that size less than the bump stop your ok

weve made several sets up on 2.25" springs that have been fine even down to 100+mm on lees old saxo
and then the issue becomes the wishbone hitting the shell not the coils

its what i was told by faulkners when i was asking for a spring with 1 less coil which they couldnt do, in theory i can see how a 3' could compress more but it may only be 5mm or something pointless. cud always phone them up and ask

i dont recall my wishbones hitting the shell, the track rod ends were pretty close tho.

what sort of lb main springs do you use?

yer AST coilovers say the will do a 100mm drop they r the one's i want when i make a move into coilovers.
pm kam or start a thread in their section and see what they say or suggest.

weve done several sets man so lb varies aswell has the height weve gone for on them
and i had a look in your arch at fcs wishbone was sat on the shell on your vts

as far as ive come across on them weve done 2 sets of low-low ones one with 2.25" springs one with 2.5 and neither co coilbound
one iirc is on 180lb (the 2.5s) the other 225
