VTR "Breathing"

  1. #1
Been looking round the forum loads recently, looking for ways to improve performance on my VTR. One thread I read was discussing the merits of dropping a VTS engine in. i don't want to do that, but the part that caught my eye was where somebody said to just work on the "VTR Breathing"

I assume this is in relation to airbox/filters/exhaust but is anythin else invovled, i.e. is there any headwork that needs to be carried out?

I just want to get a little more "poke" in the engine, not turn it into a fuel-burning rev happy monster.

    What would be the recommendations?

most will say do a search, there are loads of post about this.
but to help i would sugest to start with an upgrade of the brakes, that could be just a decent set of pads to a full conversion of bigger pads and discs. then move to the suspension, get it lowerd and have poly bushes fitted and upper and lower braces. then move to the engine, either a replacement filter in the oe airbox or a decent enclosed induction kit. then a decent exhuast with a decat if you want, then a 4-2-1 or 4-1 manifold. also put the car on a diet and shed some weight. i'd also say get some good tyres as these help in the handling. then in the future move on to some work on the engine, what ever floats your boat in that department.

Breathing is in relation to Exhaust, Ex Manifold, poss de-cat /sports cat , Induction kit

Higher: cams , port + polished / gas flowed head

Highest: TBs/ SC or tubby / pistons
