digital dial question

hi i baught a replacement 120mph instrumental panel with silver dials and wanting the backlights to be blue with the smd's.

If i manage to do it im going to replace my current dials that are blue for these new oes, however iv'e heard that by doing this whatever miles that was on the dials will be on mine, when i bought them the guy sai there was 62000miles n the clock and mine has 52000 on the clock, iv'e heard that if i put the new ones in it will show 62000 for my car and not 52000. Apparentely the miles done in the car is saved in the digital screen thats on the circuit board. However further inspection shows that is connected by a ribon cable!

so my question to you is if i take the screen off the ribon bable and replace it with mine will my origional miles show back up?

    or cant this be done?

    Thanks

    anyone

No that's just the ribbon cable to the screen itself, the mileage is actually stored in the Motorola processor, the biggest square chip on the board. It requires a special tool to be updated, which i have

looks like you will do it for £30

does it actually matter cos cant the mot and service people find out for themselves if you tell them the story that you changed the dials

well if you put your car in for mot and it done 70k last mot and its not ready 60k then they'd know, but if its done more than they wouldnt know.

as above, it doesnt really make a difference.

You can put a car in for mot one year with 150k on then the next with 20k on all the MOT tester does it write down the mileage. It will show up if anybody looks into the previous mots it but its not breaking the law. Its only breaking the law if you try to sell it as a car with only 20k on the clock.

Only issue is that when you come to try sell the car "its got 62k on it but really its only 52k.." wont be believed by anybody, thus devaluing your car

so if considering to sell car get the miles done. however id show them the miles done.....

    wait a minuite!

i will have to get it corrected cos how else will you know your service is due as it will incorrectely show up!

you could be strolling down the road and the next minuite the cam belt goes cos you really did 80k but it shows 60k

thats scared me a bit... will probs get it done
