or should i just upgrade them completly with bigger discs and calipers from another car? gti6 maybe?

Can grab a 266mm kit second hand for about £100 dude, so for the amount of money spent on grooved discs you could have far better brakes to begin with

in my opinion a performance pad and disk setup in 247mm will outperform a 266mm one with standard parts

I had performance discs and pads on my vts and didnt notice too much of a diffrernce. Fitted a 266mm setup and noticed the difference straight away mate! Go with bigger brakes!

where can you get "bigger brakes" from?and how much are they roughly?are they made for a vtr or do you have to buy ones for other cars and mod them?

I got my brakes from a scrapyard off a berlingo van mate, same setup as some 306s, xsaras etc.

I managed to get the calipers, carriers, bolts for £40, then all you need to do is get new discs and pads to suit the calipers. When i got mine i chose to get new dust seals, sliders, and bleed nipples, so that the calipers were basically as new. In total i spent about £110 on the lot.

Fitting the brakes, i had to grind a little bit of the carriers as they were catching the struts (lucas setup), although im sure the bosch setups bolt straight on in most cases and dont need any alterations.

The brakes arent made for vtr/s but they do fit, there is a good guide on here that you should look at:

The setup i got was the first one under the 266mm setup (lucas type).

Some people choose to change the master cylinder and get braided hoses aswel when fitting some of the bigger setups, i chose not to and still notice a big difference with the stopping power that they provide.

Do make sure to get some decent brake fluid (dot 5.1 i used) and make sure that the brakes are well bled when refitting the new brakes!

    Hope this helps a bit
