general questions on engine

   hi peeps
   
   right i dont want to sound daft, i figured this place is for help so here goes. ive got a few questions regarding things ive seen in this topic. here goes lol
   
   a) what are polished and ported cams? or whatever there called? and what do they do?
   b) forged pistons and the effects?
   c) throttle bodies and wat do they do?
   d) over sized pistons or what ever they are?and how they make a difference.?
   e) uprated cams? and the effects
   f) any other similar mods?
   
   just ive seen all these forum posts and would love to be able to do these thing on my vtr and also help with prolems lol

   Hi there and welcome, Ill try to fill in the blanks but there are better people for the job on the forum lol;
   
   a) Cams are what move the valves on the top of an engine letting in fuel and also letting out exhaust gases. ie, 16 valve with 4 pistons = 4 valves per piston. Polishing these if i'm right can give greater power output from your engine and even economy i think.
   
   b) Forged pistons are just what they are, they are forged so that they are stronger I think
   
   c) Throttle bodies are what controls the amount of air getting in which mixes with the fuel.
   
   d) Never heard of oversized pistons
   
   e) Uprated cams are used to speed up the timing of your engine and these can give large power gains if used correctly.
   
   f) There is a huge amount of similar mods that can be done to Saxo's
   
   Best bet is wait for a mechanic with a VTR to tell you what i've said is a heap of crap lol

   Not in Wales that I know of. Best bet is to see who gets bak on here with answers, plus just have a look for advertising near you and ask about some of the garages, they maybe able to point you in the right direction. As for prices, air filter 120 or something all the way to the thousands easily. Depends how far you wana go bud with the mods.
