Minor uprated performance upgrades

   Im renewing my head gasket on saturday along with fitting a new cambelt kit
   
   Is there any worth while up grades I could do to the head to improve BHP peak or just drivability
   
   Im not after chasing figures but do want a good drivable responsive car
   
   Would skimming the head be a worth while thought?
   
   Any change to the standard cam timing?
   
   Is it easy to port polish the throttle body or is there any resitrictions I could do without having to send the head away to a reputable garage to have preformance mods carried out
   
   Any help would be appreciated guys as I from a Ford back ground and am not clued up that much about my current w reg VTS

   get a 1.3/1.6 106 rallye head, they come with a 270 degree cam (pretty mild but nice upgrade)
   
   ive got one im going to put on, but it may be fudged.
