Windscreen Visor Trouble

  1. #1
Just had the MOT and Service, and yep failed on the Sunstrip!

This thing seems to sting you no matter how many precautions you take! I read the rules about height, intruding on vision, colour contrasts, lettering styles, transparency and they STILL came out with another rule that meant the car would fail if the sticker wasnt removed!

I have a Poseidon Blue VTR, and had installed a 6" strip along the top of the screen, tinted black with white lettering, definately nowhere near the drivers vision. Picture of it >>here<<Which passed last year! (though sadly the dealer was bought out, and moved).

This time, its the 'Swept Area'! No screen applied sticker can encrouch on the swept area (which is ludicrious because thats like 3-4cm at the top of the screen!

    So whats the solution?

Whats the length of standard wipers? and how small can the wiper blades be in order to fit the sunstrip in, before they fail for being incapable!

this rule is the one that catches most people out. as with a lot of things it just depends on whice garage you go to as to whether it will fail or not.

i know some people have fitted smaller wiper blades. but most people get away with having the sunstrip there

This was at Citroen Freeborn, Guildford.

I did get rid of it, not having my VTR fail because of a sticker! Though because of the extra windscreen space, it feel like im sitting against the steering wheel while driving! hehe

How about starting a list of MOT garages that have failed Saxo's for odd things?

mine failed because my hazard lights didn't work but they passed it anyway and just told me to get it fixed. all good anyways! they passed it with the sticker on

Can you get tinting film & have that as a sunstrip?

You will still be able to see through it as it will be medium smoked but will block out abit of the sun so it isnt right in your eyes?

Cant be arsed with pulling the sun visor down, will look like iam putting some make-up on, lol.

no tony you can't tint the windscreen at all, and even if you used it as a sunstrip it would still fail as it would fall into the category of fouling the swept area of the wipers.

LucaZone- remove the sticker, pass the mot, then fit a sax-p sticker or remove both front wipers and put your rear wiper in place of the driver's side wiper (ie diy-single wiper), then swap back post-mot.

Rite here is a picture of my Sax-P sticker and the wipers go over it every time i use them, surely they cant fail mine??

Mine passed with a sax-p one along the windscreen.

Sean, would that work, moving the rear wiper to the front?

i think it would work Dan, after all it'd only be on for just long enough to pass the MOT then it would be swapped back.
