mk1 or mk2 vts engine whats the difference???

   i have a red top vts engine and a mk1 westcoast 1.4 but i cnt tell the difference in engines can u help??

   well a vts has 120bhp with a 16 valve engine when a westcoast has 75bhp and an 8 valve engine. really if you cant tell the difference your vts is f*cked or your westcoast is modded the shizzle out of hope this helps

   I think he means the mk1 and mk2 vts. As far as I know, its the ecu, loom plugs. But I know theres more. Think the coilpack is?

   sorry i didnt ask the question very well i have a vts engine in my garage waiting to go in the westcoast but i dont know wether the engine i have is a mk1 or a mk2
   
   just waiting to find a cheap ecu and manifold then it can go in.

   Mk1 will have a single ECU plug, Mk2's have a triple ECU plug, i think thats the only obvious difference in the Mk1 and Mk2 VTS engines.
   
   Manifolds are the same i believe.

    MK2 engines from 2001 and later have a three plug ECU and a cold start fresh air pump (often reffered to incorrectly as an EGR). You can tell if you have one (fresh air pump) as it will be mounted to the front of the head. It's a black circle with a metal pipe going into the exhaust side of the head near the airbox and some black rubber tuning going to a pump located behind the passengers foglight.
    
    Some early MK2 engines (late 1999 - late 2000) have a single plug ECU and two prongs on the head where the fresh air valve would be mounted, but no pipework etc.
    
    Chances are if it's got a two prong head and a 3 plug ECU it's a MK2 engine, if it's not got any prongs on the front of the head and a single plu ECU, it's a MK1 engine!
