Growning.

   I can hear growning from the engine. Dad (A machinic) thinks its the cam shaft, although his not 100% sure. He also thinks it could be the diff in the gear box.
   
   Which is the likley one? The gear box changes gear absolutly fine.
   
   Its for a Punto btw (Bout as reliable as a saxo)

   I cant tell from the info you have given me. If you dads a mechanic, then i would go with what he says
   
   Is the sound coming from the rocker cover, or the gearbox? That will tell you which one?

   lol, yes go with what he says... but he says two things...
   
   from experience, if its Diff, then shafts will start to become stiff / lock, so will notice on on driving rather than the gear changing itself.

   Well, you can't hear the noise when going BELOW 15MPH. Infact, at slow speeds seems the engine is running sweet.
   
   Its when you get to the higher speeds its making a grinding noise. Much like your on a aeroplane crusing.
   
   Changing gears is fine, nice and tight and spot on, much nicer then a saxo tbh (only on gear change). I was wondering what it will most likely be?
   
   I'm hoping its the diff only as on the punto forum, they say changing the sam is a right bastard and far easier to get a new head.

   iirc when my mates punto's gearbox went its an engine out job. iirc of course.

   I've never heard of a camshaft groaning. They either rattle or "pink"
