Harness Query

  1. #1
    Evening All.

Im in the market for some harness's. 4 Point preferably, and id like quite a wide one (3").
However, ive allways been under the asumtion that all twist release harness buckles are not MOT compliant. But i see alot of people running them.

Is it a case of running a proper harness and swtiching over to a budget one with the push button release for the mot?
Wouldnt bother me normally but i want to be able to use the car on the road aswell if i need to.

Also, the buckets im buying are side mounted. DO i need to buy extra sliding subframes as well as the side mounts? Ive seen alot of cars have their seats quite high this way. Id rather be lower. Can i just bolt them through the floor?
Been looking at other cars and they seem to be quite nice (rushy's / willsy's / Alex's 106)

Buckets are Cobra Suzuka S if that helps

    Regards

    Sam

not sure on the harness question.

But you could just bolt the seats to the floor yes, or weld some rails in??
  3. #3
Not sure on welding in rails as i wanted to keep the front carpet. Although i suspose i could paint them black and sit keep the carpet in. Any pics or guides of people doing this.

Supose willsy would be a good person to ask, his car was looking great at trax and he had a nice bucket position and front carpet.

Personal opinion now, but there is nought wrong with a push button release. Thats what I run and it works perfectly. The twist one is just more fancy. Dont think the twist release is not MOT friendly anyhow.

Also, personally I would just run the base and side mounts. Dont bother with sliders. When fitting just make sure you fit the seats to a position your comfy with. Most side mounts will give you various bolt holes to play with

If you want it low then yea, some welded seat rails are your best bet.

EDIT: Willsy doesnt have welded in seat rails. But you could always cut the carpet around the welds.

Thanks rush, anypics of welded rails at all? And when u say run base and side mounts, do u mean just blot the side mounts to the floor? Sorry bit of a noob with seat positons. Links would be good.
Also is there any 3" harness that run a pushbutton release? Dont mind running one just want wider harness's because my mate runs narrower ones and they dig in a bit.

Edit - Rushy, im not bothered about the seats sliding. Just wondered if i needed anything else than the side mounts to fit the seats?

from what i have read before buying my harnesses, aircraft style buckles will not pass an MOT as they fail to meet a few criteria including colour (has to be red), size (aircraft style is too big) and operation (has to move vertically like a push button not twist like the aircraft style)

However i just keep my normal seatbelt in the car and the original buckle bolted to the subframe/mounts. This allows me to pass MOT even though my harness is sitting right there in front of the tester lol

I would but the cage bolts to the old seat belt mounting point on the b pillar
(god im giving all my secrets away now to do with my plans for the car)

renault megane r.26r comes with rotary style buckle system and is road legal iirc.

Nah its cool dude. Its all clear when you see pics.

To start off with, you can see here the base mounts and side mounts:

Base mount is what the side mounts and seat sit on. Side mounts you can clearly see.
I probably wouldnt advise you bolt side mounts to the floor without rails or base mounts.

My harnesses are 3" shoulder straps and run push button. Also 4 point, they are OMP ones.

lookin for same answer really i`m a newb to all this and i want my bucket seats to sit me lower than standard seats do :/
  11. #11
how thick is the bolting bracket for your cage? i.e. show cages mount at the same point but still allow the seat belt to be fitted. is this not possible at all with yours?

With the cage it seems he is running you wont be able to mount the original seat belts to the B Pillar as they usually are. Same as the SD cage I have.

Showcage you would be able to.

Most bucket seats without sliders will sit a lot lower than standard seats anyway. All depends on what spec side mounts you buy.

rushy i love you! but im sure you know that already
One more question, have you got a link to some base mounts that i can attach the side mounts to?
    Will be cobra side mounts.
Can't seem to find what im on about
Will have to look into them omp harness's aswell. Seem to be everything i want tbh.
Not looking to go mega low but dont want to be poking out the sunroof either. May have to do what you've done. Just need those blasted base mounts.

Nah mate not really an option for me. Think rushy has sorted it tho.

Its no problem matey. Nice to see a thread where somebody needs general help rather than repeating something thats been asked time and time and time again!

    Cobra subframes/base mounts:

Id just research peoples cars before you buy. I think Samcook had Cobra seats. Check his progress thread. Make sure you check before buying!

rushy this has been a great help to me too

ive been considering an OMP seat, what are they like comfort wise? and where is the best place to buy
  18. #18
    No problem dude.

I personally think the OMP range are very good, but at the same time Ive not tired many other fixed buckets to compare. YBracing are the best price wise to order, but delivery can be a pain.

I run the ARS2 seats, they are pretty supportive, but very comfy. Just a bitch to get out of.

I was also looking at the omp seats as i havent yet purchased the cobra ones. i was 99% on them but seeing willsys omp at trax has made me look into them in a bit more detail.

the cobra suzuka and the omp WRC are my two top choices atm

the seats look fairly similar (near identical)

although the OMP seat is more expensive, the subframes & mounts are a lot cheaper meaning the price overall is fairly similar

the cobra suzuka is highly tempting me, but the subframe and braket being expensive is putting me off

    hmmm

OMP WRC seat looks the shit imo! Wish I had that over the one I bought. Not a huge amount of difference. But still..

the review's sound good about both this and the cobra, so i doubt there will be much difference
  24. #24
Just looked at the price between the wrc and the ars2. Not much in it at all. Think ybracing will be getting an order for 2 wrc seats soon.
  25. #25

  26. #26
