Saxo VTS or Lupo GTI

  1. #1
    Hi guys. MY bro has just bought a Lupo GTI and claims it is faster than a VTS. Just wondering what your take on this is? It did feel fast I gotta say. He said the 0-60 times are not a true reflection because the VTS hits it in 2nd gear wheras the GTi has to go into 3rd. He also claims the GTI holds its power in the higher gears a little more than the VTS.

    Woud like to get the two cars in a drag race, would be interesting.

    So if you were in a 1mile race and your life depended on it, which of the two motors would you climb in?

    P.S I put this on the general forum too but not sure if that one worked. Am new to this site lol

    I am not overly familiar with the Lupo range and from my search the numbers vary but they all put the same Saxo VTS as a notably quicker accelerating car with it being around a quarter of a second quicker to 60mph in standard trim with similar top speeds. If your doing a race from 0 to anything speed up to 100mph possibly 110/120mph I would be confident the VTS would have legs. Much more than that and your talking terminal speeds so give it a long enough road and whatever one had the edge on top speeds would eventually win. But saying that with older cars you never really know as it all comes down to how well the cars looked after. Only really way to try it is to go to a straightliners event and have a go. Bit pointless though as the result would have no relevance to any UK race track, drag racing or even the road after all lol

    I would imagine the Lupo is alot heavier? *Goes to look on Parkers now* lol..

    Also, both 120bhp aren't they? Saxo has to be lighter, so I would think the VTS would win tbh

    Lupo:

    0-60 = 8.0 secs
    Power = 123 bhp
    Torque = 112 lb-ft
    Top Speed = 127 mph
    Weight = 1015kg

    VTS:

    0-60 = 7.6 secs
    Power = 120 bhp
    Torque = 107 lb-ft
    Top Speed = 127 mph
    Weight = 935kg (thought vts was lighter tbh)

    Anyway, there ya go..

    Also, they are only insurance group 11... If I got one, it would have to look like this

    I test drove a lupo GTI at the same garage where I bought my VTS, trust me, the VTS is considerably quicker, and handles better.

    I think the only thing that the lupo had over the vts in my opinion was the interior/quality

    vts would kill the lil lupo lol,both r nice cars but the vts all the way

    Like you say, quality of a VW is second to none. No squeaks or rattles lol.

    Lupos are still quite bare inside, not quite what everyone expects from a VAG.

    they are fun little cars.

    Ive had two saxo's now and so for that reason alone would want a change (just to make things a bit more interesting).

    Further the insurance classification (11 for GTI vs 14 for VTS) is a winner for a 20 year old.

    VTS would be a bit quicker.

    But they do leave VTRs.

    my vts won by 5 cars of distance a drag with a lupo gti 6 speeds, from 50 km/h to 150

    Im pretty sure the Lupo is more in the 900kg to at most 980kg.

    Not as quick as the VTS, BUT the build quality is to a much higher standard. My friend has one (not a GTi) but its so nice to drive/live with.
