1.1 box on a vts

#1

#2Ive heard they are shite, different ratio's completely aren't they?
-
#3closer ratios.so better accelleration from what ive been told.
-
#4there no good mate its a eco box so longer ratios so there rubish. if you want a good box look into getting a 106 s1 ralle box or 106 xsi 1.4 box there make it feel loads better,
but i would not recomend putting a 1.1 box in mate. -
#5Sorry to jump on some1 else's thread but what about a 1.4 westcoast box on a vts
-
#6ye idealy id want a rallye box but there a bit hard to get hold of...
-
#7ant a 1.1 box got a smaller diff???
-
#10ye i heard they dont last as long as an s box butt i dont use the car that much so not to worried.cheers tho..
-
#11iirc, the 1.1 box doesnt have the sport ratio's like the vtr and vts.
Like said above a s1/s2/1.4 xsi box is the best -
#12hmmm.i thought because the 1.1 only has a top speed of 110mph or so,the ratios would be much closer??maybe i got it wrong
-
#131.1 top speed of 110mph :/
-
#14since when did the right section get deleted?
jesus... -
#16as in the technical section which im now moving this to.
And 1.1 boxes generally are shite, do use smaller diffs dont have a sports cluster etc etc... -
#17Just got mine back with the 1.1 box and if anything its better than the vts
-
#18Do your own research, a lot of people seem to talk paff on here about 1.1 box's. Look up the code on the box your looking at, then check out its ratio's on 106oc, the box's have very similar ratios. They do indeed have a smaller diff but quite a few people run them without any issue's at all.2 users thanked this post: ,

#19The 1.1 boxes run similar ratios to the VTS but as said they are not the sports boxes so they are not as strong as they are not built to handle very high torque. If using for everyday/moderate driving and just want a cheap replacement then it should be fine but if you regularly drive the car hard go for a sports box. I prefer the 1.1's gear ratios to the VTR box though, avoid any box with longer ratios than the 1.1 tbh
-
#20the splined bit in the diff is not as long on poverty spec gearboxes, 1.1 is similar ratio to vts, furio gearbox has shorter first and second gear then same as vtr
-
#21Diff is smaller, but people make out that means it'll go pop the first time you try to launch.
Simple fact is, i've done plenty of trackdays, plenty of hard launches on the 1/4 mile, and mine's still living, there's a slight whine in 1st gear (which has been there for a long time), but other than that, there's no issues with the box.
The ratios in the box aren't 'sports' ratios, no, but as long as you're changing up just short of the limiter, you still drop back well into the power.
The only issue I have with my box is that at 70mph it's sat at 3500rpm, which is one of the loudest places for the car to sit in the revs in mine, so on the motorway I have to sit at just under that (circa 3000rpm/60mph).
Bearing in mind, that's not having driven one with a VTS box on, so they may actually be better, they may not, but I just wanted to clear up a few things with people trying to make out that they're no good at all.
