Rear drums-seeping rear left

got brake fluid on the drum, dads gone down to halfords for new ones, wondering if its an easy job? (got a haynes manual at hand)
brakes havnt been good recently, pedal goes almost to the floor.
anyone else done it? any advice/help welcome.

Sounds like the wheel cylinder has gone. When you take the drum off there is a small cylinder inside with a rubber seal at each end. Pull these back and if there is fluid leaking then they're f**ked and need replacing. Not to hard a job to do. If your replacing shoes etc aswell, then I wouldnt recomend doing it yourself, as you need to make sure that everything goes back on correctly, i.e. all the springs etc. If you do decide your going to do it, then do one side at a time so'es that you can check and refer back to the other one to ensure correct fitting. But if you get stuck then just ask away on here mate.

sounds like cylinders . . . piss of piece to change over.
trouble comes, the brake fluid will have weakened your shoes, chances are you could snap them in half with two fingers. so would reccomend replacing your shoes, now unfortuantly, you have to replace both sides not just the one that the cylinders have leaked.

shouldnt take more than an hour to do the job tbh.
its all pretty much straight forward.

dont forget to then bleed the system, and check the handbreak as the drums are auto adjusters, so you should hear it all click back into position.

thanks very much, at least i didnt find the problem stuck upside down in a ditch.

halfrauds didnt have the parts in stock. getting all the stuff tomorrow. shoes were f**ked on one side. wish me luck, will get in touch if i get stuck

no worries dude!
jsut take your time if your doing it yourself, its not that hard a job.
cylinders can set you back around the 50 bucks mark, and then that again for Shoes... but that would be the kind of max price.

try somehere like GSF or Kevin coopers, im sure they do cylinders for 20-30 quid, and again for shoes.

make sure you grind the lip off the drumm too, or else in the future you wont get them off in future, tbh not sure if they do it on saxs as never had a saxo with drums but did have an ax and did have to do it on there

fitted new shoes and cylinder, just got to bleed it now, got my haynes hand.
