de-cat pipe?

am i right in thinking that if i whack a de-cat pipe on my car it's legal if a copper stops me or i get a roadside stop, they'll just make me stick the cat back on BUT if i crash and they take the car away im pretty much fucked as my insurance will be invalid???

also what sort of gains are you looking at on a vtr, about 5-10bhp?

not road legal, youll fail mot too
increase depends on the car but about 5bhp ish

    increased sounds
    insurance wont pay

yeah thats pretty much what i thought, i dont think it carries a fixed penalty or anything they just make you put the cat back on and present the proof in 7 days or something like that. sounds like a great idea til' i get smashed into and then my insurance wont pay up! cheers mate

Naaaa, i heard you can get an on the spot fine as mr policeman can carry out a road emission test there and then, if he suspects owt.

Most saxo's still pass the test without the cat though

Yeah they can pass without the cat sometimes

i had a de-cat pipe with savage system and de baffled back box with induction kit! sounded very very loud. would wake the dead evan no coppers stopped me but had afew dodgy looks. then i got a more subtle exhaust! thats the way forward. u wont pass MOT with de-cat as mine failed and its not road legal. just get a back box m8. cheaper and simpler! owww and i de-cat pipe drinks petrol like a hor!

where do people get this decat drinking petrol from? By removing the cat there is no reason that it shoudl use more fuel, more like heavy right foots wanting to hear noise

unless the copper is the biggest of cunts you'll probally end up with a retification notice where you get 14 days to put the cat pipe back on n get it checked by a garage to prove you've put it back on the thing is how many copers will be able to see if you've got a cat on or not if your cars on 15's and lowered 40mm or more he aint going to see shit under the car
