stuck torsion beams

Need a bit of help, lowering the rear of the saxo, issue I have is that the torsion bars refuse to come out.

have tried the bolt and socket method (snapped several bolts)

And hitting the other end with a big hammer and a combination of both methods

    it hasnt moved at all

Any ideas? I read somewhere that jacking up the trailing arm will take the stress out of the bar and make it easier, is this true?

    cheers.

Try the socket and bolt method again but this time try it with a nut aswell as in the picture below then do up the nut as tight as it will go then get underneath the car and hit the torsion bar with a copper hammer so that you do not damage it then do the nut up some more and just keep repeating untill the bar is out hope this helps

we have attempted that already with no luck

They are seriously stuck in after 3 snapped bolts and lots of hammering its not moved atall

there is no reason at all that the bar method wont work. make sure all four washes and nuts are out, use a strong long bar, place it on a axle stand at the write hieght and beat it stupid with a descent size hammer. get someone to hold the bar down if need be.

Are you hitting the bar at the other end or underneath as in the picture below

    oxyacetylene . . . sorted.

basically we have taken everything out that has to come out. tried pulling it out with the nut and bolt method and broke two bolts its in so tight. we tried hitting the other end of the bar with a extension bar and hammer and underneath the bar while doing this.

Still it wont move at all

yea burn the grease out the beam great idea tonto

just do what aron said its not failed yet for me (or willsy/lee who do torsion bars quite a bit)
if it does get a bigger hammer

I made that mistake the washers are well disguised! dont use oxyacetylene, shouldnt heat suspension parts, makes them brittle!

how many washers is there to take out ?

ive taken the one out thats kinda recessed down if you like at the end of the torsion bar. is there others ?
  13. #13
