engine wont start after fitting? wiring

  1. #1
my mate put a vts engine in his vtr but there are 3 wirs that dont go anywhere so these look to be the problem
i think because the vts is from a mk2 and hes put it in a mk1 is why they are not fitting but what do use think

    heres some pics
  2. #2
number one is the main loom multiplug so if thats not plugged in nothing will happen
number 2 is the charcole canister in the wing
number 3 is a lamda sensor (probably the after cat one in the exhaust)
  3. #3
the first one has no where to go as there is too of that types on the engine loom and only one on the car
  4. #4
its a 106 gti engie then if its got 2 plugs
youll need an appropriate saxo loom for the car
  5. #5
alright so just buy a vts engine loom?
  6. #6
You need to get the right loom as they differ across the models
get one from the same year car as the vtr
  7. #7
ok thanks il tell him what to do cheers
  8. #8
    No worries

number 3 is the power steering pump isnt it?
  10. #10
number 3 is defo lambda sensor
  11. #11
think its abit far away for steering pump

i think it will be lamda as he didnt get one with loom now that i think about it
  12. #12
It is 100% the second lamda sensor

I've played with enough engine looms now to know that

it won't matter not having one there though
  13. #13
do you mean the 3rd one?
  14. #14
Yes the third plug (which should be near the back of the thermostat housing) is what has been questioned
and it is a lamda sensor

Just wanted to bump this thread after reading this, I've bought this exact engine and now knowing its a 106 gti engine surely it will be easier for me to fit it to an R Reg Rallye? I know nothing about looms so if anyone could help me out i'd appreciate it alot.
  16. #16
    Bump? ....
  17. #17
well did the guy replace to loom with a vts one? if so then no it wont plug in to your car but if you still have the gti loom which is the same plug type as your rallye then yea it'll fit.

basically what loom came with the engine and what loom do you have on your car

people should do a little research when buying 16v engines everything would be plug and play if you bought the right engine for your car, it took me a couple days to do mine and started first time and im not exactly mechanically minded
  18. #18
Cheers man! It's the same as the pictures above posted in the first post, Which is a multi plug? So guessing thats a 106 engine yeah? Hopefully will be pretty straight forward, Main reason for buying was it was a good price and was local to me
  19. #19
    double post
  20. #20
well they are all multi plug lol basically im guessing the engine is a single plug ecu loom as well as you original loom??

and have a look at the where the engine loom connects to the interior loom does your car have 1 plug or two plugs? and how many plugs does the new engine loom have?

if the looms are both single plug ecu looms and both have either 1 or 2 black multiplug connector son them then yea you'll be fine and it'll be easy
  21. #21
oh yea im guessing you didnt manage to sell the rallye then?
  22. #22
Decided not to sell it man, Just deserves some love and care, so 8 valve out engine all rubbed down then time for some 16v + Pugsport,

I've no idea about the Rallye looms as i've not taken the 8v out yet. But i'm sure we could find out, R Reg S2 Rallye
  23. #23
well its an r reg so it will be a single plug ecu loom the only thing you need to check is how many black connectors it has 1 or 2? you don't need to take the loom out you just have to open the bonnet and look lol

ive spent another grand on my saxo after you turned it down ;( lol new dampers, brakes, bushes, wheels, cambelt, torsion bar is being lowered a bit more, and its going back to the body shop to do some more painting
  24. #24
Stupid question but where are the black connectors on my car? If you could tell me i can go out and look/take pics right now, Your car is nice man but i just realised how much i like the 106 and now that i found that 16v engine so close to home i just had to do the conversion, Cannot wait to get it on the road!
  25. #25
look at the bottom right hand side of your engine bay

then look down and behind the passenger head light you will see this black connector basically is there one or two, as you can see there is only one on my vtr (but some have 2 as you can see next to mine there is a circle cut out of the metal for cars with two connectors
  26. #26

Just a guess but think the engine i picked up is ideal, Because that picture shows 2 plugs and the engine i picked up has two similar plugs.
  27. #27
then its spot on mate as long as your new engine loom has a single plug for the ecu and two big black connectors then you'll be fine, basically as long as the two looms look the same you'll be fine and it'll be a straight swap
  28. #28
Hopefully be as straight forward as that, That was the first thing i looked at on the engine noticed it had two plugs and couldn't figure that out, The boy put it in a mk1 vts and obviously the engine wouldn't work with him as the loom was entirely different, So hopefully it will work fine with me
  29. #29
yea dont worry it'll work, the last owner only had to buy a mk1 vts loom and fit it then see which connectors were different then swap the connectors over wouldnt have been too hard

if you bought mine the conversion has already been done haha sorry ill stop now lol now ive got these new wheels and suspension/brakes im falling back in love with it lol

As long as your so confident i'll take your word for it lol, I need to get an exhaust manifold and vts airbox.

The car will be getting to the garage possibly tonight or sometime during the week, Engine will be out this week and will be rubbed down and prepped for paint, Then 16v will be in and shizz.
