Difference between Silver top and Black top heads

  1. #1
Ive had a search, found a few threads but only limited info on them. And simple answers such as 8bhp.. also search.

What i have found out is that the Black top heads are better/stronger, better for camming. They have different inlet manifolds.

    Not after stupid answers.

    Thanks

One is black and the other is silver

Sorry had to be said xx

I think they have different internals, e.g: valves springs etc etc. And like you said the black top is stonger.
Isnt there something to do with the roller and rocker versions? not an expert

Ok at least we got off to a good start.

So valve springs are different on them?

So now, hows the Black top actually stronger?

Whats the advantage of roller over rocker cams or visa versa?

And any more differences not mentioned yet?

I'm not too up on this but I was speaking with John at GMC and the black top which is the non roller type rocker gear(correct me if I'm wrong) is alot more suitable for higher revs, which is why you can get better results from camming a black top..

Therefore the roller type isn't really suitable for high revs...

    Hope it helps

From looking at this also, and speaking to a few people the black top is as said better for higher revs and modified n/a engines,

after building up a silvertop head for my boost project, i now wish i'd gone for a blacktop due to the fact the s1 106 inlet will only fit these and not the silvertop due to port spacings.

are you looking to modify a blacktop engine?

I finding majority of this out now for a mate who is boostin his silvertopped engine, and he asked me what the difference is between the heads. He knows his stuff though, built dragsters fastest in europe, and builds alot of engines.

Sounds like he will definatly need a black top then right? Hes going to fit some chevvy valve springs aswell he said.

In my opinion, i'd go blacktop for boost and fit a s1 inlet!!

Once you've gone black you never go back!!!

Just spoke to him, hes gonna run a T25 with about 6psi, nothing too drastic with a 5th injector. Making his own manifold etc.

He was sayin about the roller rockers that if you get the right valve spring lbs right then you can get them to work quite well aswell as he uses them type roller rockers on the chevvys alot.

Hes just bought a silvertop head though yesterday. But hes syas hes gonna use it gently durin the day with a bit of fun at night, then once the pistons melt, hes gonna blacktop with the s1 rallye inlet, forged internals etc. So a bit late now for the OP question but, i still wondered anyway.
