Can i still skim the head?

Hi guys have got a vts engine ready to do a conversion, Got it mega cheap knowing there was issues.

#Issues, Cam Belt snapped at high speed.
So i knew there was going to be bent valves,

After taking the head off to asses the damage noticed that ALL the pistons had indents from the valves

Also the head gasket has blown between cylinder 3-4 and 4 looked too clean compared to 1-2-3 but that could of been due to the loose head bolt in that corner.

Now i have 4 pistons with indents in them.

    ## Also the head looks like it cant be skimmed because the resess for the valves seem to be sitting higher thant the block, so when the valves are open they seem to sit higher than the block.

    Really hope that makes sence

    Questions??

    #Are the pistons scrap?
#What can i do if the head cant be skimmed?

$$ also the timing had been advanced by 11ms would that cause the pistons to hit the valves in anycase. When using pt50's?

    Please help

id be looking at changing the pistons (standard ones if funds restrict), sounds like head has been skimmed as iv just looked at a spare head i have and valves sit below head face, you still can use it though just means you will need a spacer plate (de-compression plate) to make up the compression.

Pics wont go any bigger. If you change the pistons then you may aswell buy new rings and shells etc.. and if you are doing all this it will just work out cheaper to buy a JP4 lump or a rebuilt vts one.

Personally i would take the head down to your local head shop and ask them about the skimming and repair gaskets. They should be able to tell you better if its usable or not. As for the pistons they are usually ok to use

they do have indents on them as standard

If the heads bust, ive got one here with all the valves and bits in it. Just no cam covers and possibly cams iirc. Send me a pm if you end up needing one

So the pistons are normal? And i can just run a Decomp plate will this run as it should or will i loose power?
  5. #5
decomp plate would do it, but they cost more than a 2nd hand head lol
  6. #6
you shouldnt need de com plate, just a repair head gasket which is thicker

pistons are supposed to be like that and as said use a thicker gasket

Hi was wondering if theses pistons will fit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PUG-106-CITROE...ht_3278wt_1165

Mine is a mk1 single plug vts will these pistons fit as mine have a little damage on them, where the reuses is anyway underneath that there is another little mark so im trying to find replacement pistons will these fit or has any one got some that will for sale?

vtr pistons dont have cut outs for the valves.

I can break a spare engine for pistons and rods if you need to buy some.
