Has this been done? open cone induction.

Everyone seems to get all touchy about open cone induction kits.

I have a pipercross open foam cone filter and is the only disadvantage 'heatsoak' ? (which I have never really come across my induction kit is beautiful)

I was think of making a heat shield to stop the engine heating the air filter.

Would it work or has this been done before at all?

Then if I just got a cold air feed from the grill to the cone, would that work better than having an enclosed kit?

I am a bit of a noob but I thought this was a good idea?

Yes it has been done before. K&N sell them with a heat shield lol, and they also have a cold air feed.

Yeah I know that lol but what I mean is that if I made a heat shield for my pipercross cone and had the cold air feed would that be very good?

It wont be sucking in any direct heat but it will still suck in heat from the whole bay!
