Rear screen washer (not)

  1. #1
    Hi all
I'm having a problem with the rear screen washer - or lack of it. The rear wiper comes on fine but when I turn on the washer the front wipers and washer come on. There's no water comes through to the back. I've tried cleaning the jet with a pin. No joy.

    Anybody got any ideas.

    Thanks in advance

have you tried twisting the end on the wiper stalk? twist it all the way and hold till the disired amount of water comes out!

silly question here, but are you doing it correctly??

Turn the wiper on, then turn it once more and hold it for the water to come out the rear??

Just how you described it, it sounds as though your putting the wear wiper on and then pulling the stick back, which controls the front washers.

liek i said silly question, but has to be asked.

If your doing it right then maybe its a faulty switch, isit making the noise but no mater coming through??

Pipe may have come off perhaps??

Thanks. Yeah I'm operating the switch correctly but no joy.

hmm, maybe the pipe has come off.

Does i make the noise as though its pushing the water though when you turn the switch???

Yeah it's making the right noises - just nae watter.

hmmm could maybe be that the pipe has come off from the washer jet.

Not sure how to get to it, maybe under the head liniing??

Or maybe its come off at the wash bottle end??

    could be worth a look

    Did you ever fix this?
I have the same problem - at the beginning it was making a weird noise like it was trying to pull the water through, but in the end it just stopped making that noise all together. It's not been working for about a year now - never got round to it!

I did try clearing it with a pin, and I had a quick look under the bonnet and the pipe's still attached..

Sounds like the reservoir ran dry (the buzzing of the pump but no water coming out) then the pump burnt out (stopped making the noise). Mine did this a while ago.

New pumps are about £10 new, but the one I got (from Halfords) had the wrong connector for my car and I had to connect it on with spade terminals.
It's dead simple to replace the pump, but it's quite fiddly. You need to get the plastic skirting off around the wheel arch because it's just in front of the driver's wheel - that was the biggest arse for me.

    Couple of watchits:
    -The connector might be different
-If you have to bodge the connection, check you've got the two wires the right way around before putting everything back together (I put the skirting back and the front and back were reversed )
-If you have to cut the hoses to get the old pump off, they might not be long enough to reach the new pump along the existing route and you'll have to reroute them a bit so they reach.
-Don't attempt it if the weather forecast says rain/snow/hail and you don't have somewhere covered to work (talking from experience in case you can't tell!)

Had exactly the same problem on a pug 106 diesel a new wiper switch/stalk sorted it, got one off ebay for a fiver and easy to fit.
