Handbrake and Oil lights flickering

  1. #1
Hiya, my handbrake and oil light keeps flickering, espcially when its wet. How can i stop this as its pretty annoying. Also my Engine Management light was on for about a day but a good ragging soon sorted that out! I will be grateful for any help.

hi mate, it could be anything from a connection problem either behind the dash or direct from the ECU electrics.
Otherwise it could be dickie sensors.

If the lights are flickering, Have you checked the Brake fluid and oil levels?
  6. #6
sounds like your brake fluid levels are low. have you checked that?

yeah checked them both are fine. i'm guessin its a loose connection as they flicker as i go over bumps etc.

Did you find out what is causing this in the end?

Mine has been doing it for the last 2 weeks, only does it for the first 5 minutes of a journey when it's cold then stops.

Brake fluid isn't low, although I do have a small leak which I need to look into once it gets dry enough for me to actually be able to find a leak, it has been recently topped up, so shouldn't be causing the warning light to come on.

    Any other suggestions?

Would that be affected by the engine temperature? As the engine temperature goes up, the flickering stops. Seems to only be while the engine is cold.

It probably is an electrical problem though, the two come on and go off at exactly the same time.

Check out the earth wires on top of the gearbox, it is possible you have a bad connection on one of the 3 wires, 1 very thick wire, black, goes to the battery, dont think it will be that. It may be the thinner wires, green/yellow that have a dirty contact area or a break in one of them. Hope this helps, Cheers. Kev-o
