Help!! VTS engine conversion wiring

  1. #1
Hi, i have bought a saxo from a mate who was half way through finishing an engine conversion on a mk2 vtr to a vts engine. I know the engine is fine and so is the car because i have seen both working beforehand.

The proplem is the car is mk2 and the engine is from a mk3. We were told to buy a mk1 gti or vts loom and it would be compatible with both the car and engine. However the car has what i think is 1 plug to attach the car loom to the engine loom and the loom has two plugs.
Not sure how to get round this?

Ive been told not to cut wires as it removes the option to use the in car diagnostics once the car is running. This will stop me being able to clear or diagnose any faults with the engine or car once running.

Can anyone help me with this? anybody who could shed any light on the situation and how to solve it your help would be very much appreaciated.

    Thanks, Reece

yea the car looms one plug.
i thought about that but my ecu has one plug and i understand some have 3? I tried my vtr loom on the engine which is 1 plug but it dosnt fit the ecu. is there a certain loom that will fit both my car and the engine??

ah rite ok. I was told this before but we could only find a mk1 106gti loom which i assumed would be the same?? are they different?

does anyone own a mk1 vts that can tell whether it has one or two plugs from the engine to the car loom? so i dont go buy one and end up in the same position. thanks

just fitted a mk1 vts into mine last week! had the same problem, you have 106 gti twin plug, so get a vts loom and it will be ok, you mite have to change ure crank shaft sensor(possible) hope this helps

its a mk2 vtr with single plug ecu? you need a very specific loom which came in my2000 vts's. you may need to change sensors (or the plugs on the loom)

Yea its an unlocked ecu i bought separatly. So i just need a mk1 loom and im goin?

no not simply a mk1 loom, an early mk1 loom will be no good for you. you need one from a 2000 vts, single plug for the ecu and 1 big multiplug at the other end. an early mk1 loom will have a smaller multiplug

as lee says you need a single plug on the ecu and a big multi plug, this should also match the sensors on the engine iirc

does anyone have a single plug ecu off a vts with the bigger multi plug like the 2000 1 has as im doin a conversion on my mk2 vtr and my engine is mk1 p reg and the looms for the early mk1 please get back to me email me tup15@hotmail.co.uk cheers

there are 2 types of ECU - single plug, and 3 plug

there are 3 types of loom - single plug large connector (mk1), single plug small connector (mk2), 3 plug normal connector (mk2)

what do you need? As you say Ecu then refer to the size of the plug
