i need a really small turbo...

  1. #1
i want to turbo a moped, as cheaply as possible. anyone know of any really small compact turbos?
dont tell me its stupid/it wont work/not to do it.

    cheers
  2. #2
    You need one of these

  3. #3
oh ive already seen that, is it off some new bmw? im thinking more some old bike or really small engined car, or maybe even some kind of commercial vehicle which ive never heard of but someone on here will know about it
  4. #4
that would be a gt15 iirc

whats turbo for lee you use with saxo? I used a ihi rhb51 off a charadde gtti on my old car
  5. #5
The smallest I can think of is the Smart turbocharger . But the problem is that its one piece with the exhaust manifold.
Even a Daihatsu Charade unit which was to power a 1 liter 3 cyl will be too big for a moped. It wont spool for its life . Good luck m8.

im hoping with enough revs it will spool up, this is enough to build my hopes up lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAGz4i2_Iuk

You must be mad haha. But its sounds like fun
  8. #8
You can use compressed air with a regulator and get it down to 15psi You will need some kind or an airtight airbox but it will work and blow the moped motor to kingdom come but it will be fun
  9. #9
i dont expect it to last very long at all, but it'll be fun while it does last
  10. #10
Then crank it to about 30 PSI for some fun.

    ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES
  11. #11
only problem is, im shopping for turbos and now thinking about turboing the saxo again
  12. #12
Are you shopping to turbo the moped? Your best bet is the air compressor m8. It would be nice to hear that turbine trying to wind up but the aircompressor gets the job done for your experiment. I have done it on a chainsaw .. RIP

Nova turbo diesel. Bit hard to get hold of these days. Don't forget though turbos are intended to work on 4 stroke engines. That's not to say you cant get them to work on 2 stoke but its a little more complicated and does not work even a fraction as well.
  14. #14
You will need some kind of a pump to send oil to the turbo bearings. Two stroke oil is fine

If you want to be hardcore do what i did. Buy a leaf blower, fit a cable from the leaf blower to the throttle and mount it somewhere. Put a hose from the blower to the air filter and shazam.

Its ghetto as fuck but works. I did it on a 150cc pit bike, didn't work very well because i couldn't be arsed re-jetting the carb but it did work and the bike was alot faster just not as fast as it could have been and the exhaust glowed after about 30 seconds of high speed .
