Best box for a MK2 VTR?

  1. #1
searched for ages but couldnt find the exact answer i was looking for so here we go.

i want more acceleration but want to keep some top end speed

i know that with a s1 box it wont go over 100 so thats out of the question

    what about the 1.4xsi?

    s2?

    and finally VTS?

1.4 xsi is about 110 and tbh i wouldnt on a standard vtrwith 6200 limit

s2 or vts would be where i look persoannly vts for ease of finding it and the fact it will still do some reasonable speeds

so will a vts still make noticeable difference to the acceleration?

what about the revs, does it just rev quicker?

    and top speed?

sorry i just dont have a clue

It'll feel like it revs quicker, I'd go for a vts box.

Top speed would be around 130 (maybe less with the vtr rev limit?)

i like the vts for track and road

and roughly how much will it cost to buy a good reliable vts gear box, and roughly how much to fit from a garage etc?

Bout £100 I'd say for a box, maybe 200 to fit?
  8. #8
And yes, you'll feel a difference.

Stripping out weight is cheaper for a similar result.

:O 200 to fit haha i thought it was a bolt on job

Well say a local garage charges roughly £50 an hour, then maybe 4hours to swap a gearbox over including fresh gearbox fluid.

It's a bolt-on job, once you've got the shafts etc out of the way lol.

    Still a 2 person job.

Not know any spanner handy mates who will do it on the cheap?

so whats the most you could get out of a standard mk2 VTR?
  13. #13
didnt think it was that much
what about b n m quickshifts add one of those in aswell? make much difference?
  14. #14
It just reduces the distance to move the gearstick between shifts

does it just replace the gear linkage?
  16. #16
    Nope, just a new gearlever
