Can a drum braked beam be converted to a disc one? If so how easy?
Another beam question

#2yes it can. 4 bolts to get the beam off. depending on how rusty the bolts are, its quite long. iirc, you need vts brake lines as there not long enough i think?
-
#3Yes it can, read my project thread that shows you how. Will need to cut and flare brake lines / fit full length vtr lines.
-
#4Its only the stub axles I want to change if its possible. I have a VTR, I want to fit a drum braked axle from a 106 and fit my discs to it...possible or not?
Got another VTr beam , but it was scarily useless. The mounts had rotted -
#5VTR beams are disc beams, are you sure you dont have a westcoast or furio badged up fo be a VTR??
as JP stated it is rather extensive the work that has to be done

#6Nah, I have VTR, it has disc beam but its knackered. Got a vtr disc beam from scrappy, mounts rusted through. Can get a MINTED 106 beam but its drums, my question is can I take the stub axles off a disc beam and fit to the 106 drum braked one so I still have discs at rar

#7You can take the trailing arms off yes, im not sure what you mean by stub axles?
-
#9It's a piece of piss dude. Take discs off, calipers and caliper mounts, then put an old hub nut nto your stub axle and gently (but firmly) knock it out until the hub can be removed, then with the hub removed carry on knocking it out. Same basic principles apply to the drum set-up.
In theory, the stub axle should be replaced, but I've done this before and run them for a year without bother. -
#10Or just swap over the whole trailing arm which is even easier
-
#11Don't you risk beaing colapse if you take the arm off?
-
#14if its a VTR it should have rear discs. ive just put a 106 1.1 axel on my car and swopped the drums for my discs. you need to redo all the brake pipes and swop the stub axels IF your putting discs on as the drum ones are shorter. we had a right chew knocking them out an had to heat the beam up in the end!!
