if I bolt in a decat pipe with my standard exhaust system, will it make any noise? (98 VTS)
decat

#2might a bit,but nothing mutch notisable
-
#3ok, well I was looking into a decat pipe and a back box, only there would be a gap of about a month in between the 2, with the decat coming first....
-
#4wouldnt it be easier saving up for that time and buying a full system which would decat it anyway?
Edit: I realise that you would still have to purchase a decat pipe but it would sound better
-
#5yeh was thinking about that, but I dont want it really loud, just audible, but with the performance of a decat, hence why I saw the decat/backbox combo as a good comprimise...
-
#6well...what you could do is go to the scrappy, get the center section from a diesel saxo and a back box, that way you're getting the increased bore of the center pipe, decatting it annnnd you will have the nice sound from the backbox
-
#7hmmmm....does the diesel pipe have any silencers?
-
#8nope
-
#9oh rite, have to think about that one, just dont know if it will be too loud for me, as I do a lot of milage and I think it will piss me off on the motorway...
-
#10well my mate has a VTR and he has the diesel center section and a supersprint manifold with the standard backbox (at the mo) and his doesnt sound any louder than standard but it pulls more
Upto you, just opening your options for ya
-
#11yeh cheers for that mate, just gotta do some financial maths, lol
-
#12haha not a problem buddy, thats about the cheapest way you're gunna do it I rekon. Good luck
-
#13yeh, tbh im not exactly skint, not rich either but I do try and buy the best things I can, so I think id rather have either a stainless system, or at least a stainless decat pipe rather than the mild diesel section...
-
#14I would agree with you 100%, it is a cheap way of doing it but whether you get the quality at the same time is debatable. I'd be the same, I've got a full stainless on mine.
-
#15yeh, I think im gonna get a decat pipe and a back box and see how it goes, maybe buy the rest of the system at a later date........what back box do you recommend, the inwardly rolled round ones have been done so much, was thinking maybe oval?
-
#16Yeah I have a magnex system on mine with the good ol' fashioned 3.5" rolled tail pipe...fits nicely in the precut hole in the bumper like. its just personal preference really, oval might look quite sexy
-
#17hmmmm....I do like the one you have, its just been done so many times id like to have something a little bit different, might even go for a jap can...
-
#18artnmotion has a 5" jap can on his saxo, looks the part and sounds amazin
-
#19You should take a pic of the rear of your car, post it on here and get someone to Photoshop some different styles of cans into the picture so you can get a feel for them before purchasing.
-
#20yeh, tbh I can do that myself just gotta pull my finger out! was just looking at artnmotions photos, looks like hes had about 100000000 different exhausts but couldnt see a 5" jap can...?
-
#21i got a 3" jap slash for sale and i paid £11 at a scrappy for a diesel centre section but that gone now mate £30 for the can tho it a direct fit too once the flange has gon
-
#22how did it sound?
-
#23jap cans usually are the dogs bollox
for sound anywayz...
id love a scorpion 5" suzuka if i had the car and money
-
#24yeh I dont think id get away with a 5" as im getting it lowered aswel...dont think id get on my driveway...mite not with my 4" either
although we sold our house yest so should be moving soonish
-
