standalone ecu

#2Emarald, Omex, Megasquirt, Dta
Best to google them and see who they recommend to map/fit them - and give them a call. The prices differ for fitting as they'll need to wire them in - and they'll need to know certain information hence needing to call for a quote really. -
#3would it not be better to just get a remap with them mods? why do you want to go standalone?
-
#4well tbh that was what i was thinking but i saw on another thread tha someone had the same setup as what im going for and they said a standalone would be better so im not sure
-
#5yea no matter what standalone will be better even if it was standard but it is alot of money. as everything you pay fr wat you get. standalone will give you a better gain then a remap but with them mods is the money worth the bhp gain..
-
#6true how much are we talkin to get a standard ecu remap?
-
#7i have never had one done but im sure its around the 250/300 mark tho
standalone will be about 500 for ecu 200 fitting 80 map sensor 300 rolling road fine tune -

The benifit of a standalone is often it allows for a more detailed map due to having more load sites, it doesnt automatically mean more power.
Plus when running additional set ups it can work without certain sesors etc.. -
#10who would you recomend? cheers ryan
-
#11or you could consider the predator ecu on here. he has alot of good feedback and its suposed to work realy well..
-
#12anyone know of well known companies that do remaps or should i google it lol
-
#13i have been thinking about the predator ecu ot sure what price they are now tho thought that was a one of offer but will most certainly look into the predator but might wait till end of next year because im doing a quick job on my vtr til next april when i get another years no claims then im gettin a vts hopefully to get it turbod think i should save as much as i can lol
-
#14Take a look at this mate

Edit:
Just seen you've already looked at them. -
#15lol yeah but think i will have a read through it again just to help make my mind up lol cheers for the advice
-
#16if i was you i would just go for remap and get standalone when you turbo the s. unless you have money to burn..Quote:i have been thinking about the predator ecu ot sure what price they are now tho thought that was a one of offer but will most certainly look into the predator but might wait till end of next year because im doing a quick job on my vtr til next april when i get another years no claims then im gettin a vts hopefully to get it turbod think i should save as much as i can lol

#17The thing about a standalone is you have the ecu.
So say you do a crappy 8v, then decide you want more power, you can upgrade and you still have the ecu for it (just needs a new map).
Getting a remap then needing a standalone is more costly down the line
-
#18for the price of the predator/mapping on it there really isnt much monetary difference to a map for an OE ecu from say chipwizards.Quote:if i was you i would just go for remap and get standalone when you turbo the s. unless you have money to burn..
Whats the point in paying for a map then to pay for a standalone and another map at a later date? lol -
#19very fair point i was just having a quick read of the reviews and tbh i think like ryan said whats the point in paying for both when you can get the predator and then reuse it unlike the standad ecu
-
#20the fact is aswell, if you ever sell the car, and want to strip the engine etc...
A standalone is easyer to sell than a mapped ecu -
#21well he obviously wants more power out of his vtr for now untill he turbos the s. so id get a remap for now untill i get the sQuote:for the price of the predator/mapping on it there really isnt much monetary difference to a map for an OE ecu from say chipwizards.

otherwise wats the point of paying out for cams and other mods??? may aswell wait for the s still and spend the money on that. -
#22So remap his vtr ecu, which is worthless when he goes to an s?Quote:well he obviously wants more power out of his vtr for now untill he turbos the s. so id get a remap for now untill i get the s

Or a standalone with wideband now, which can be swapped over to the new engine then remapped?
Simplez really as generally most people map standalones cheaper than OE ecus -
#23aha ryans just too goo!. never thought of that. would make sence. he said he would be going s when he gets his no claims so i take it hes gonna buy a s and not do a conversion unless he declairs it.
but if he dosent do conversion then theirs always puttin the old ecu bk in the saxo if he wishes to sell it maybe? -
#24The only issue with a Pnp like andys would be the plugs etc.... for the engine loom from 8v to 16v.
Emerald this wouldnt be an issue but the loom is hard wired....
I would guess andy would maybe be able to sort something if needed -
#25Hmm,
given the impending no claims increase, I'd advocatepatience until the VTS engine can be put in. Enjoy the VTR without the cam, then you'll have a truck load extra cash next year for your upgrades.
I'm no expert on the VTR, but surely a VTR with cams/manifold/exhaust/ECU remap/cold air intake surely only makes as much power as a standard VTS anyway??

#26hi guys yeah i was thinking of doing an s conversion but not 100% as i think it would be cheaper in the long run to just buy a vts saves payin for engine then fitting the engine might aswell sell mine then buy a new vts and money saved on not doing the engine swap i can put to the kitty for the s aswell
