    Hi all

i started polishing my rocker cover today (as in polished metal) and it will be autosol'd and laquered once its done to preserve and enhance the finish.

was just wondering if anyone else had done this? as i havent seen it (and yes i did try the search first lol)

I have like many tried and failed, it's a total ballache!

Willsy had the patience to do it properly iirc, very time consumig thing to do, some companies offer mirror polishing services tho

Took me over 12 hours to do the VTS covers.

Started off with 80grit sand paper to get rid of any oxydation etc off the surface then literally worked through every grade of sandpaper/wet and dry up until 1500 grade

Finished it off with heavy cut metal polish followed by the really fine polish stuff

The reflection was pretty impressive in them after though, so too was the blisters on my hands

Absolute shit to keep shiny week in week out tho

8V covers are just mild steel though? Wouldn't waste my time polishing as it'll just rust again in no time. Get it chrome plated or powder coated imo.

16V covers take a lot of work to get (and keep) them looking shiny!

They are very high maintenance, especially throughout winter when you get road salt splashing about

Cleaned mine every couple of days last winter

Patience is the game when doing these I think - took me quite a while to do also. Here are some pictures....http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=226470

just to add guys who are posting 16v rockers looks liek the op has a vtr

the steel is a lot harder to get to polish up properly and unless laqured will oxidise very quicky man so i personally woulndt bother with the effort of it all

Once done use peek a boo polish.
Has something in it that helps protect the finish for longer.
