Fitting door check strap

OK, fingers cut to buggery, have fished the thing out of the bottom corner of the door more times than I care to count..

Anyone got any advice whilst I go for a pint to calm down..

I just need to replace the door part as it was missing

The part on the pillar, long hooked lever is OK.

How do I thread the lever into the spring/roller part ?

Got a haynes manual, doesn't really tell you much in there.

So are you saying that it's better to have it assembled and then thread it through the door hole as opposed to trying to mate the two parts whilst they are attached to the car ?

yes thats how you do it

ive done this myself, it has to be assembled and thread it from insdie the door, take the speaker out and fiddle

it can take a while, be patient lol

    Done it..

I had to carefully remove the two *very* tight torx screws that hold the strap to the door pillar, I can see that rushing this would easily snap them off.

Then assemble the strap's hooked lever into the sprung cam, this took a bit of working out as you need to lever it it back a bit whilst holding it in a vice to get the lever between the cam rollers.

Springs on the outside edge, hooked lever pointing towarsds the inside of the car., plenty of pics on e-bay.

Then I threaded a long cable tie through the bracket end of the strap and fed this all into the inside of the door and poked the cable tie throught the hole, this way when I fumbled it it didn't drop into the bottom of the door any more.

    Once I'd got it through - Bob's yer auntie's live-in lover..

    Job done..

    Thanks for your advice guys.

Tip on unscrewing the tight torx screws cant seem to get mine to budge and the bottom torx screws threads are wearing away!
