install vtr engine into a furio ???

  1. #1
hi everyone im new on here,im 17 and for my first car i bought a written off icelandic grey mkII furio. i thought i need to save the little guy so bought it and me and my dad restored it back to health.

lately i was thinking about putting in a vtr engine init and was just wondering what else i would need to change if i did. (clutch, brakes etc)

i am also thinking of adding a new exhaust on it so would like to ask opinions on that. ive been told to get supersprint and is it better to get a supersprint exhaust and backbox or a japspeed backbox with supersprint exhaust
    cheers

I have a furio and was also thinking about doing this next year when my insruance renewal comes,i would just need the vtr engine, loom and ecu if im correct? Also would i notice a big difference on performance as was thinking about doing a few engine mods, tho thought the vtr lump would be a better idea.

sell your furio, add the money you would use to do a conversion and buy a vtr/s
    common sense pal

well i can get a vtr engine off ebay for around £100 and im sure it wouldnt cost much to fit.and i quite like my car thats why i wanna just change the engine.

As yours is a mk2 furio, you will need a mk2 vtr engine for a hassle free conversion. Your furio loom is near identicle to that of a vtr so you wouldnt need a vtr one. If you just buy a vtr lump and ecu, its dead straight forward. Just gota make sure the vtr ecu is unlocked.

While the lump is out, its worth while to change the furios gearbox for a VTS one. Will make a massive difference to how the car drives

mite aswell put a vts in it

Wouldnt agree with that. From a furios 75bhp, 98bhp is a nice steady rise at 17. Its a lot easier to swap the engines aswell, no faffing about with fuel returns. Plus it leaves scope for a 16v lump in the future

Might aswell, dont follow the crowd

i was looking in to a vts conversion as well seen a whole conversion on ebay for £500, engine with 69k ,gearbox, ecu and loom, but as the VTR swap would be alot cheaper and easier just thinking about doing this next year.do you think i would notice alot performance wise?

And it's the 3 plug ecu i would need alothough you said i wouldnt really need to change that.

    thanks for the comments.

id just like to say thanks to jscott for taking over my thread lol and i can get a vtr engine for free because i have good mates lol so i just want to know what else i would need to change for it to work. i also like mine and ive brought it back to life from being written off so would like to keep my car and i cant put a vts engine in cos im only 17 and cant afford insurance for a vts
thanks to all the guys so far who have tried helping me, much appreciated

aha sorry just didnt want to create another thread..,if you get it done "furiokitney" let me know how it is performance wise and what you had to do to get it up and running.

My missus had a furio when i had a vtr back in the day. Both had the same mods and honestly, there wasnt a great deal in it. Obviously there is a difference. Some will say its massive, others will just say its slight.

At the end of the day, the vtr lump holds more power potential for tuning over the 1400 furio lump.

A nice 4-1 de-cat manifold, mani back system, nice cold air fed filter, cam and remap, and your vtr transplant will be alot better than a furio

does anyone know whether id have to change the brakes and clutch in my furio if i was to put in a vtr engine
  21. #21
youd be advised to! more breaking power = being able to use more power on the road safely. you can get 1000C Group N from KAMracing for like £160

anyone selling a single plug unlocked ecu and/or vtr engine
  24. #24
vtr engine should have a clutch on it, brakes should be ok but always better to upgrade when you adding more power ("should" be done before upping the power) and tbh mate id sell and buy a vtr tbh, if the car has been damaged it puts off potential buyers but then to swap the engine and your gonna cut your list of poos buyers to slim as ppl will generally think thats a bit iffy and tend to steer clear, and if your spending time and moeny modding it thats the last thing youll want,

ok thanks for the advise blackie if i end up doing it it wont be for a while so ill searcha round for a new car in the meantime and give it some real thought
